Seventy years after the end of the Holocaust, Ukraine’s parliament has extended official recognition to a nationalist militia that collaborated with the Germans during the Second World War.
According to a bill passed on Thursday, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, an ultra-nationalist faction that sought to establish an independent Ukrainian state, would be eligible for official government commemoration, according to the Kiev Post.
While the group, an offshoot of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, engaged in warfare against both the Soviet Union and the Nazis, it also collaborated with Germany and took part in actions against local Jews. The Simon Wiesenthal Center condemned Ukraine’s recognition of the group as well as a second bill that equated Communist and Nazi crimes.
“The passage of a ban on Nazism and Communism equates the most genocidal regime in human history with the regime which liberated Auschwitz and helped end the reign of terror of the Third Reich,” said Wiesenthal Center director for Eastern European Affairs Dr. Efraim Zuroff.
“In the same spirit the decision to honor local Nazi collaborators and grant them special benefits turns Hitler’s henchmen into heroes despite their active and zealous participation in the mass murder of innocent Jews
These attempts to rewrite history, which are prevalent throughout post-Communist Eastern Europe, can never erase the crimes committed by Nazi collaborators in these countries, and only proves that they clearly lack the Western values which they claim to have embraced upon their transition to democracy,” he added.

Given that the Soviets brutally murdered around 8 million Ukrainians in the 1930s, it is not surprising that many Ukrainians initially viewed the Axis forces as liberators when they invaded the USSR in 1941.
Putin is an evil thug, but the Ukrainian Government is a evil NWO Soros creation. Both things can be and are true at the same time.
For the Ukraine and many other countries in Eastern Europe, it was a choice between Hitler’s Henchmen and Stalin’s Henchmen. Trying to pretend that Hitler was the only evil guy out there, and that the Communists were the Good Guys, is stupid.
Stalin committed some of his biggest mass murders in Ukraine. Those countries caught in the middle didn’t have a lot of choices.

Very true.
It is also true that most of the brutality of the Soviets during the suppression of the Ukrainians after the Russian Revolution came at the hands of largely Jewish Soviet Komissars.
That led many of them to willingly participate in the extermination of the Jewish population in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian government is made up of ultra ethnic nationalists that have open ties to Neo Nazi groups.

This is much ado about nothing. If our country had been conquered by the USSR we would cooperate with the Nazis too if we thought it would liberate our country. And before any idiot here gainsays that remember we did essentially the same thing by siding with the USSR AGAINST THE NAZIS.

While some of these groups still hold anti-jewish views, the “Sub-humans” in today’s Ukraine aren’t the Jewish, but the Ethnic Russians.

You actually have groups fighting under the banners of, and exalting, Nazi “heros” of the past like Oskar Dirlewanger, who helped the Eisatzgruppen work in hunting down jews in Ukraine, being now OFFICIALLY absorbed into the Ukrainian Army.
Groups like the Weisenthal Center have to say something about it, now.

Those Ukarainians were heroes, regardless of whatever uniforms they wore.

No, clearly that’s true of Putanistas like yourself. A thinking person would realize that the Ukraine is in a fight for its very life and therefore might make pacts with the devil it knows to fight the devil it fears. We would do no differently and our history shows that to be the case.
