Color me strange. As long as I have salt in the beans as they cook, I don’t need the seasoning. I actually like Pinto, Navy, and Great Northern the same. If I have Ham base, or ham hocks, I use them. If not I’m happy with just salt.
I don’t care much for rice, though I do like a small amount with stir fried veggies.
However add some cornbread, butter, fried taters and sliced maters and onions to the meal and it’s absolutely my favorite plate lunch.
The small amount of salt I put in the water was only what the dietician said the water had to have for the beans to cook thoroughly. There wasn’t enough salt to add any flavor to the beans. I was strictly following what she wrote to see if the beans would actually cook to soft with nothing added but what she wrote. The beans were totally devoid of any flavor.
salt, salted butter, bacon, and pepper - super seasonings. LOL
