Dear lord,, seek help. I don’t even agree with me all the time! And nope, but there are whelps I care about in my life. I don’t want them living in the belief that molesters and killers are everywhere. With a few shining exceptions, this just is not true.
And I honestly believe hovering parents teach a kid moment by moment that they are in constant danger, and are incompetent to deal with the world. That very powerful lesson does horrifying damage to them.
And my own story, we liked to ride bike on pavement, so we went 3 miles out of town to the airport. The mean lady chased us off the runway with a broom “you damn kids are gonna make a plane crash”.
No, not that we would get killed, that we would make a plane crash trying to avoid us.
Went home, not a word. Today that would be a homeland security airport perimeter breach and a CPS incident. Guys looking like Nazi paratroopers would spill out of MRAPS with machine guns, filling the air with “hut hut hut..” Everyone would be arrested. Today isn’t worse, government is. Control freak government NEEDS people to believe the world is worse, otherwise their power grabs would make no sense.
That is my fatwa.
I’m late to the party on this thread but I’m in agreement with you. I have 5 kids, 4 grown and one still in high school, and I would NEVER have let them wander around alone. As I mentioned before, I lived near where Amber Hagerman (Amber Alert) was abducted. Even hardened cops that had seen everything were horrified by the state of her body and what some subhuman piece of filth did to her. I think most of the investigators won’t even talk about it to this day. Anyone that lets a 6 year old play in a park unsupervised needs their head examined.
And everyone that keeps saying they did this and that all by themselves when they were young, so what? So did I. Sure as heck doesn’t mean I’d let my kids do it.
