Sadly, some TSA “agents” probably rushed to a pawnshop.

Thanks. The lighter set off alarm bells when it comes to the TSA.

"Lost."

Must be TSA-speak for "stolen."

That might have been the most poorly reported story that I have seen so far this year. After watching it, I am still not ever sure exactly what she had in the backpack and when exactly she noticed the items were missing...and why was she carrying this stuff with her on a vacation to San Diego?

And as for determining value for insurance purposes, that is not that difficult. I suspect she lost or sold the stuff and is now trying to get some money by making up a crazy story!

Yes, it was bad reporting.

I think she had those items in her backpack and the only time it was out of her control was when it went through airport security. Sounds like she didn’t know they were gone until she got wherever she was going.

Anything of value in luggage you take on an airplane is fair game. It is no more complicated than that. If they can search your bags, and they can, they can take whatever they want out, and they will. If they perceive value, it’s as good as gone. This is just a fact of life. You might just as well leave valuables on the sidewalk in front of your house for 24-48 hours. If it has value it WILL be gone.

About 6 months ago a Massachusetts state judge was featured on a local Boston TV station's investigative report stealing a $4000 watch at a TSA screening area at Logan Airport. The judge was found by a State Trooper not long after the crime in the First Class lounge of one of the airlines. The cop demanded ID and the judge handed him her state employee ID indicating that she was a judge (hint, hint). The cop filed formal charges (in spite of the hint...gutsy cop) and it was brought before a clerk magistrate who, according to the reporter, immediately banged his gavel and said "not guilty".The judge retired immediately thereafter. No trial ever occurred but she *did* get a $100K/yr state pension which, the reporter said, she would have forfeited under state law if she had been convicted in the case.

Ya gotta love Massachusetts...the Rat Party machine doesn't even bother *trying* to hide their corruption.

Time to strip search the TSA thugs and raid their homes.

My wife had a portable XM receiver stolen out of her checked bag while on a business trip.

Why is no one discussing the reported fact that a WWII fighter pilot went missing at the airport?
