An Oklahoma man's last few moments alive after he was accidentally shot last week by a deputy who meant to stun him with a Taser is seen in disturbing video released by police Friday.

"He shot me! He shot me, man. Oh, my god. I'm losing my breath," Eric Harris says as he struggles on the ground with police on top of him.

"F--- your breath," an officer can be heard saying. "Shut the f--- up!"

Reserve Deputy Robert Bates, 73, shouted "Taser! Taser!" before pulling the trigger on his gun, firing one round into Harris.

"I shot him!" the shocked former policeman says, dropping his gun from the recoil. "I'm sorry."

In the video, provided to the New York Daily News, a body-cam captures an officer in a foot pursuit of Harris who is subsequently tackled in the street.

I don’t debate with people that call other FReepers ugly names, right off, without discussing things. If I was wrong, I would apologize. Not now. You’ve proved that you aren’t worth discussing this with.

haha, did you see that video of that man in the desert, riding what I heard was a stolen horse? When he gave up, he just jumped off that horse, spread eagled on the ground. Many officers came up and kicked and hit him. More came and got their licks in.

Legally, maybe it's not murder, yet I must say, murder!!! We're not in court. We can say that. Just like we are able to assume guilt. In court, they can't. We are free to express our opinion.
And your reputation is intact here! We like ya.

I don’t know what happened here, but I do know that it’s natural to struggle some when someone is hurting you. And those police are intentionally rough.

no- I had said ‘the papers’, meaning the MSM papers (and also thinking the MSM TV news)- but should have articulated it better-

[[I have no problem with the guy being a police officer but at seventy three he should not be on the street walking a beat at his age he should be working the desk]]

Chuck Norris would disagree with you

[[Some folks will complain that the officers were still trying to handcuff the guy. Officers have to get you under control, and cuffing the suspect is how they do that. ]]

Exactly! There is no way the officers can know what weapons the person might have on them- knife, blade, heck even a pen or pencil which can kill- These officers want to go home at the end of the day, and when confronted with a non compliant perp=- you must ALWAYS assume the worst for your own safety- even if they are wounded

[[You can’t just let him go, or continue to be combative.]]

That is just a no brainer- EVEN IF the perp is wounded- they are STILL a potential serious risk to the officers

You better look again, then. On the bright side, letting the police decide who needs killing and who doesn’t will save a lot of court time and money. Most of that savings will be funneled back to them to buy ammo and the lawyers, judges, jailers, and bailiffs will be out of a job, but what the heck, nothing is perfect. Perhaps they could go into business as undertakers and funeral directors. Like they say, every dark black cloud has a silver lining.

The old guy was in shock by his own actions. That was inordinately clear. Hard to believe, but it happened here.

You’re right he pulled the trigger. Even apologized to the suspect who had just minutes left to live. The suspect is dead, the officer will never be the same in this case. No winners here. A collosal deadly mistake.

_____________________________________________________

The officer will never be the same. Well darn, isn't that just sad! I'd say the man he just killed will never be the same, not "oh well, colossal mistake, gee whiz. Too bad" Which may not be what you mean, but that's what you sound like you mean.

If I was wrong, I would apologize.

You were wrong.

You clearly implied I only cared about the victim in this case. I never said or suggested that.

Then you attempted to mock what you imagined my position was here.

There are 900,000 cops in this country. 99.9% or more of them don't murder. You are a product of the Obama media.

Get a grip, master of the non-sequitur. The cop culture is bad across the board. They treat everyone like dirt even if they don't shoot their dog, and even if they are clearly in the wrong, like the wrong address.. I was stopped by a cop last year for jaywalking. He was so nice, I sincerely advised him get into another line of work before he became a bad guy. He just looked thoughtful.

I am quite sure I am not a product of the Obama media. I think less of you because you even thought that, much less posted it. DA.

I believe he thought he was reaching for a taser. I don’t believe he intended to deliberately kill the guy.

Manslaughter isn’t a light charge. especially when it’s leveled at a supposedly highly trained and skilled person that we are told perform better under pressure than the average citizen.

Yep, sometimes they do. And more often than not, they don’t.

Reverse your statement and you would be more accurate. I have an idea, you or I can post a vanity asking whether FReepers agree with my statement or yours. I obviously believe that mine is the mainstream opinion. The next good cop I meet will be the second one in the last 20 years.

You know, cops are a relatively new phenomena. Before cops we had community policing. Let's discuss the need for cops, rather than if they are good or bad.

Okay got it. The police are so bad that when you met one last year, he was nice.

LOL.

HellOOO I know that. I’m saying any time. Just like when cops shout commands that conflict with each other, then claim that you were resisting, they also manhandle you and then claim you’re resisting, when a lot of times, you’re just reacting to pain.

I don’t believe he intended to kill the guy either, but I also believe that he has a greater responsibility and he failed at it. With terrible consequences.
