Over a century of aviation history ended at Leuchars today when the base was formally handed over from the RAF to the army.
A poignant and militarily precise ceremony marked the end of 95 years of the RAF at the base.
A flight of RAF and army personnel was led on to parade by the RAF Leuchars Pipes and Drums, led by Pipe Major Ian Hughes and Drum Major Alastair Pether.(snip)
As senior officers took their positions, the pipe band played Hielan Laddie.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Hopefully, Leuchars will become a joint mil/civ airport to replace the incredibly short-runwayed one at nearby Dundee.

I partial to “Tangmere”, the home of RAF 242 squadron in WWII, under Group Captain Sir Douglas Robert Steuart Bader.
But Biggen Hill does have a nice ring to it.

Those were certainly interesting times to live.
The Spitfires and Hurricanes, the Messerschmidts and Junkers, the P-40s and Focke Wulfs. The B-17s, Lancasters, Heinkels, Zeros etc.
We will never see those times again. Battles with millions of men, thousands of tanks and planes.

We hope.
But with the hoards of Allah gathering in world conquest, we might just have to give it all one more go, as they invade the continental USA.
