"....The controversy over the Hugo Awards contains elements of a good dystopian science fiction story. Unfortunately, the media brat-fit over the successful effort to rescue escapist fantasy literature from its political pursuers comes not from the pages of Brave New World but from Slate,Salon, and Entertainment Weekly.
Like sports, video games, and cake baking, science fiction strangely finds itself in the crosshairs of ideological killjoys. Perhaps it was only a matter of time and space before the genre obsessed with time and space became a culture-war battlefield.
To many of the people involved in this industry, politics and message trump entertainment or quality, Larry Correia, a New York Times-bestselling bard of monster stories, tells The American Spectator. But most people buy entertainment because they want to be entertained. Many longtime readers fell away because they were tired of being preached at or having their values insulted...
[SNIP re skirmishes]
..Ray Bradbury, a storyteller less science than fiction, felt that his appearances in Astounding Science-Fiction,Weird Tales, Dime Detective, Planet Stories, and other pulps sitting at the unfashionable end of the newsstand led gatekeepers to unfairly block his entry into more respected publications. In the same month in which the Enola Gay exploded thousands of science fiction tales, Bradbury dropped stories on Colliers, Mademoiselle, and Charm under a nom de nerd. They accepted, and he promptly revealed his identity. One senses a similar prejudice revealed by the Puppies from within the science fiction community towards its own not preoccupied with raceclassgendersexuality.
The Sad/Rabid Puppies movement imitates the science-fiction heros means of exposing institutional intolerance. One cant rely on the good graces of snobsliterary, ideological, or otherwiseto gain a fair hearing. For example, those countering the discrimination of the sci-fi guardians now endure insults of racist, sexist, and bigot from the people who have already injured them professionally.

It really is a great response/essay
I’m still pouring over it.
The Left knows that perception is very powerful, as is the image of social rejection (and no one can do it like SJW) - all underpinned by lies.
Of course, it is a basic part of their MO. Look at all the fake hate-crimes on campuses, the huge outcry and marches and counseling and mandated classes and national media coverage.... then when its learned who really did it.... *crickets*
Although recently there was one where the victim was Muslim, and the perps were too, Muslim leftwing activists. The victim made it clear that the campus authorities knew who did it even before the media coverage and stuff. The radical left, academia and media working hand in glove to shape perceptions.
Yes. This is the pattern.
It would be good if his actions opened some more eyes.
Exposure is good for spreading the truth.
National geographic has gone all to hell in the past 20 or perhaps more years. They don’t even pretend to do the research. They are in the Algore “the discussion is over...we declare anthropomorphic climate change and you better if you don’t want to live in a concentration camp “ brand of science.
But Firefly was wonderful. (Even though River did exactly as you say)
Travis Taylor.....”Safety Third”
I refused to pay to see Avatar. I didn’t need some Canadian doooosh to criticize American military as being criminal usurpers of sovereign nations that just wanted to be left alone
I waited years till I realized my public library had the blue ray in stock. Watching it proved my original thoughts on the movie were correct. It is just a PC hit piece on America
Ghosts? Fiction.
Sharknado? Fiction.
Vampires? Fiction.
Werewolves? Fiction.
Where's all the Sci?
I haven't watched that channel in ages. Nothing but garbage. Although, I see that Stargate Continuum is on today. I guess they're still throwing the occasional bone to us diehards.
I loved 1632 from Baen. Unfortunately, the author falls for the “rightwingers are anti-everything” meme. Other than that, it’s quite entertaining.
What is that from? It’s quite well written.
Eric Flint (who began the 1632 series) isn’t known as “The Red” for nothing. He’s pretty much an unrepentant Socialist of the unionista variety.
I’ve been watching Baen pretty closely since Jim died, particularly since Flint took over. I haven’t seen a lot of editorial movement, but I think thats because their top line writers are very well established and probably not that susceptable to bullying. The newer authors tho, won’t have that advantage - we’ll see where Baen is in another 10-15 years or so.
Aside: I love the 1632 series as well. Altho Flint does seem to increasingly fall victim to the pie-in-the-skiers out in the tech forum who want to advance the tech way too fast).
It's not just Sci-Fi, but the current fiction in general I can no longer read, for the same reason. Everything seems to have a feminist or left-wing agenda. Also comic books.
I just made that up on the fly. Thanks
