Dash cam video of a traffic stop provided the world with another piece of evidence Thursday in a fatal police shooting. It showed no indication of any physical or verbal threats before the driver bolts and the officer chases after him.
The video, released Thursday by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, shows what begins as a seemingly routine stop for a broken tail light. The officer, Michael Slager, approaches the used Mercedes-Benz driven by Walter Lamer Scott, and asks for license and registration. There's a brief exchange, and the officer returns to his cruiser.
Scott then takes off running.

Shooting people in the back for voting Republican could go a long way to stopping that too...
Have you ever considered moving to Russia?
In any case, the police have the guy’s car and his buddy sitting in it. There is no need to even pursue him, they’ll find out soon enough who he is and get an arrest warrant. He’ll turn up sooner or later.
It seems he was arrested several times because of child support, but that was not clarified exactly how many times.
He made conflicting statements about the car, I believe. First he said he just bought it, and then he said it wasn’t his car.
Apparently the new rule at Free Republic is that you can break any laws you want to, attack cops, try to take their weapons.... and all that is just fine if you can run away faster than the police at the end because if a copy shoots at you, you are just a pure victim of brutality.
That’s anarchy.
I think the cop did shoot too quickly and should face charges, but it was no cold-blooded or racially motivated murder. There was a chase, a scuffle, the video shows Scott grabbing at the taser and I’m sure the cop was terrified in those moments that Scott would gain control and harm him.... Scott was no innocent victim. Again some posters at Free Republic are marching arm-in-arm with Sharpton and Obama.
Why? There are plenty of places around here where you get called out for not spouting the Party line.
I want you think real hard about that.
I wonder why she odd not talk to the police?
I thought of a couple of possible reasons:
1. She's lying and didn't witness anything (like multiple Micheal Brown witnesses).
2. She's irrationally afraid of talking to cops.
3. She's rationally afraid of talking to cops.
4. She did, but the cops didn't like what she said.
Wonder if anyone except us think its odd that an itinerate black man is A. driving a Mercedes and B. why would one stopped for a taillight take off running?
Don’t think they might have found crack, heroin or meth in the car? Of course now no one will ever say.
Still, can’t see any justification for back shooting the runner, especially with video showing the cop dropping the taser next to the dead perp. All dogs must have been hiding.
Scott had warrants out for him because he owed a ton of money in back child support, I guess fearing he would be arrested he ran..no justification in killing him but when you run from the cops your just asking for something bad to happen. If he had stayed in the car he would have gotten a citation and that would have been the end of it
he was in and out of jail for owing child support...
Several perfectly valid reasons for moving that taser. Evidence planting isn't one of them since he knew he was being watched/filmed.
Summey also said there were no other witnesses to the incident hours
before the news of a second person in the car was made public. It’s
unclear now what that person saw.

The police dash cam shows someone sitting in the passenger seat and never
leaves the car as long as the dash cam video is running for us to see.
It would be interesting to know what the person so or heard.
“Shooting people five times in the back for not having insurance would encourage more folks buy insurance.”
If this was SOP, 1/6 of the driving population of California would be dead, ironically also simultaneously alleviating the water crisis and the immigration crisis.
Speak for yourself. And I guess you have it coming.
I’m just saying if you don’t like the U.S. way, why live here? And other people not living up to it is not a good excuse.
“I’m proud to care about the rights of ALL citizens. “
I’d go one further...I even care about the (actual, not manufactured) rights of liberals, even though they themselves don’t seem to care.
It was a routine stop up to the time that Scott bolted. He must not have run very far or fast, since the cop was able to catch him and use his taser.
Speak for yourself.
I do. Frequently.
That you didn't read the article is telling, though.
