Tsarnaev, 21, was found guilty Wednesday on all 30 charges related to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing

His case will now proceed to the penalty stage, in which the jury will decide whether to sentence him to life in prison or execution

Reflecting her state's liberal politics, Warren is against capital punishment

Warren also spoke about current party issues - but refused to compare her politics to those of likely presidential candidate Hillary Clinton

Warren has repeatedly said she will not be running for president in 2016

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren says she's relieved Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been found guilty of carrying out the Boston bombing - the greatest tragedy in her state's recent history - but doesn't believe he should be executed.

In an interview with CBS This Morning on Thursday, Warren reacted to Wednesday's jury verdict which found the 21-year-old guilty on all 30 charges related to the Boston Marathon explosions which killed three and injured hundreds at the finish line.

'Nothing is ever going to make those who were injured whole and it's been a terrible thing but this is a step toward justice,' Warren said.

When asked what she would like to see happen in the penalty stage of the trial, liberal-minded Warren stuck by her anti-death penalty stance.

'My heart goes out to the families here but I don't support the death penalty. I think that he should spend his life in jail - no possibility of parole - he should die in prison. But that's just how I see it. It's up to the jury,' she said.

This is a Federal death penalty case - not a Massachusetts case. If it were Mass. case the death penalty would not be on the table. The local news said that he will be sent out of the state to one of two federal prisons depending on
being sentenced to death or live in prison without chance of parole.

I pray that the jury chooses death penalty for soooo many
reasons. That piece of excrement personally placed the bomb
behind the family of the 8yr old dead child. Unfortunately,
either way the Terrorist will stay in jail for years on our dime. We’ll have to pay for the appeal process. What a waste of money and oxygen.

Definitely. It is a little off priority. He might get “solitary” for his protection though.

Let him be in prison and let all the inmates know he blew a child to bits, he’d be gone quicker.
