Lincoln Chafee, a former governor and senator from Rhode Island, says he's exploring a run for the 2016 Democratic nomination.
On a new web site, Chafee, who served as an independent as governor and a Republican in the United States Senate, says he's concerned about "international instability, especially in the Middle East and north Africa."
"Throughout my career, I exercised good judgment on a wide range of high-pressure decisions, decisions that require level-headedness and careful foresight," he added. "Often these decisions came in the face of political adversity. During the next weeks and months I look forward to sharing with you my thoughts about the future of our great country."
"Campaigns are the time for debates about the vision of our future and for voters to assess the character and experience of those offering ideas," he says in a web video.
Chafee became a Democrat in 2013, when he faced a difficult path to re-election as governor amid low approval ratings. He later announced that he was dropping out of the gubernatorial race.
Don’t forget the late Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords, the Vermont Dairy Queen.
Democratic nomination for... Goofy’s caddy?
I had thought about running myself. That changed when Ted Cruz made it official.
He’s bored and doesn’t have anything else to do since he forgot how to play golf.
Shooing horses, more likely.
And after this-he’ll come out of the closet.
...and the winner of the 2015 Arlen Specter Award is.....
Hey, for Democratic Presidential candidate we could do worse. I’d rather have him than Hillary or Elizabeth Warren running against the GOP candidate. Let’s keep in mind that the Dem might win and we should be equally concerned as to who is running over on their side.
Chaffee/Kucinich 2016!!...it sort of just rolls off the tongue..
I live in Rhode Island and can attest to his idiocy. We call him Governor Gump. I suspect he’s doing this as some kind of strategy of The Central Committee of the Democratic Party.
He can explore all he wants but he is not going anywhere.
Good thing that voting for a RINO with an “R” next to their name helps Republicans keep the Senate. It worked awesomely when Arlen Specter, Jim Jeffords, and Linc Chafee were running for re-election. Oh wait...
Hey Lincoln... I have the perfect VP candidate for you...Charlie Crist... both are turncoats...
Maybe the Politburo of the Democratic Party thinks it’s better if Hillary can run against two or three nobodies and whup them, than if she cruises to the nomination unopposed.
How far? 5K, 10K?
