The American firearms industry is as healthy as ever, seeing an unprecedented surge that has sent production of guns soaring to more than 10.8 million manufactured in 2013 alone double the total of just three years earlier.
The 2013 surge the latest for which the government has figures came in the first full year after the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, signaling that the push for stricter gun controls, strongly backed by President Obama, did little to chill the industry despite the passage of stricter laws in states such as New York, Maryland, Connecticut and California.
Indeed, interest in guns appears to be at an all-time high in California, which shattered its previous record for gun-purchase background checks last month, with nearly 200,000 processed, suggesting a vibrant firearms market in the countrys largest state.
Industry backers say they arent surprised firearms buyers and manufacturers alike have responded to the national gun control debate by making and purchasing more.
The surge in firearms sales in 2013 reflects both a long-term upward trend in shooting sports participation and [a] particular concern that year that law-abiding gun owners and those interested in purchasing a firearm for the first time could face tougher restrictions affecting access to and selection of firearms, said Mike Bazinet, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, an industry group.
Little more than two years after the Sandy Hook shooting, which claimed the lives of 20 schoolchildren and six faculty at the school, the staying power of the industry is striking.

Yep! I thank Obama for his promotion!
Lots of folks I know have bought their first gun since Obama took office.
A local gun store has a reserved parking space for Barrack Obama, Salesman of the Month.
Outstanding. LOL!
Looking forward to seeing the Baretta plant going up here.
Really am impressed by my new Px4 Storm compact 9mm.
He really has created a need to arm up.
Gun sellers might be sad to see him leave office lol
That’s going to be super for TN and your economy. Do you know how many they’ll employ?
Gun control is, perhaps, THE ONLY ISSUE that can take an otherwise-loyal Democrat and make him vote Republican.
He may have issues with just about all of the Republican platform, but if he now has guns, he will vote to protect those guns - and the DEMOCRATS know that.
That is why EVEN MANY DEMOCRATS want NOTHING AT ALL to do with voting on gun control. It is also why Nancy Pelosi was able to win back the House in 2006 - she told the Dems running then to say whatever they needed to say to win (i.e., they support gun rights). She knew when the REAL VOTES came, such as Obamacare, they would be there for her, and she was right.
And that worked until 2010, but then Obama’s performance couldn’t fool the voters anymore. And then you had the shooting in Connecticut in 2012. It brought out all the gun-grabbers, and that pretty much determined the fate of the 2014 election. The Dems NEVER had a chance.
Well said, I agree.
Also, to add to your excellent commentary, the beauty of the gun control issue is that Democrats can’t con the people with cute words and try to claim the false “mainstream” position on it, like they do with abortion and education.
The day this muslim won the presidency, I bought my first gun in twenty years.
In the following year I purchased an armory and a boat load of supplies, which I promptly lost while cleaning them, on a sail boat.
Weird thing was it a jice sunny day, I was sipping scotch and a damned wave over took the boat.
Nearly capsized too.
Couldn’t save anything but, the scotch and now my sponsor won’t talk to me....
Thanks EEE!
It sure will be a big boost.
Also have a huge construction going on totally
Remaking the airport runways
They say about 350 to start.
Sadly, funny and very accurate.
And in the last two months... (Nov. 2012 and Dec. 2012)
And it continues...
And there is more...
And more...
MOLON LAVE! WE'LL BUY MILLIONS MORE. ;-)
Thanks, that’s a lot of jobs both construction and on going.
