It is difficult to list the various accomplishments of Stan Freberg. They included music, comedy, writing, advertising, even puppeteering. Mr. Freberg died on April 7, 2015 at the age of 88 according to his son Donavans Facebook page and his Twitter account. The news quickly spread on Twitter, with condolences from the many whom Freberg influenced, as well as scores of fans.

Hate to tell you, but that was more like 45 years ago.
I watched Time for Beany broadcast live on KTLA in Los Angeles with Freberg and Daws Butler doing the hand puppetry. As a callow youth, I was unaware of just how primitive the production values were. It was the voices and imagination of the creators that drove its popularity.
Not it’s not. It’s Big Jim Buchanan.
This is sad news. I liked occasionally listening to Old Time Radio.
That’s the right guy, isn’t it?
Now I can read the post.
if they go in 3’s I sure hope the next one is one I do not like
Gumby frightened me! I knew things didn’t move like that!
“Big Jim Buchanan” is Paul Frees. Freberg wrote and produced it.
For the past couple of years I’ve been playing Flash Jr. Freberg’s “Christmas Dragnet”.
It starts with Wednesday’s partner asking him if he’ll come over for Christmas Dinner, in a sort of irritatingly repetitive style, but which sets up a bunch of jokes later on.
“Love to have ya, love to have ya, the Missus does this relish tray. You know, olives, pickles, those little green onions. People call them green onions, but they’re really scallions. Love to have ya.”
About a month ago I came across a bunch of the original REAL dragnet radio shows. I picked one at random. The first minute and a half is Friday’s partner trying to get him to come over for dinner.
Don’t think Freberg had anything to do with Looney Tunes.
BTW: Porky Pig says something more like: “A-ba-dee a-ba-dee a-ba-dee-a that’s all, folks!”
At least half of the Dragnet radio shows used up five minutes or even more with Frank Smith talking about his brother-in-law’ stupid schemes, his wife’s moods, some new gadget, a home repair he was in the middle of, etc.
Porky Pig: Mel Blanc.
Stan wrote a lot of ad phrases we still hear today. One was the catch phrase for Smuckers jams. His original line was “With a name like Smuckers it BETTER be good!”
The sponsors had him change it to “has to be”!
RIP.
RIP... prayers to his family...
Thanks for the info.
Sir George and the Dragonet:
“Hey, I’m the fire breathing dragon! I see ya got one of them new forty-five caliber swords!”
“That’s about the size of it.”
“Haw, haw, haw, you slay me!”
“That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”
RIP Mr. Freberg.
I’m getting old.....Stan Freberg Presents the United States of America was one of my favorite albums.
Over the years, as my late wife and I would watch a TV show, one of us would turn and comment on an actor’s performance by saying he/she should be arrested on a 412.
