Conservatives helped do it to ourselves. From the voting rights act to smoking restrictions, followed by bans, to where we are today, conservatives allowed these things to happen.
Voting rights didn’t need a new law, we should have enforced the constitution in the first place. States were already ready relaxing abortion restrictions, we didn’t need Roe v. Wade. We didn’t need health warnings on cigarette packages or restricting where people could smoke. We were wrong to create laws against discrimination, where a business lost the right to refuse serving someone through government force. Taken in total, we’ve been giving away our rights to government definitions of fairness and tolerance. Now the PC crowd is going too far and some people complain. They should have been complaining many years ago, not just today.
Slavery was going to end with the industrial revolution anyway. A full 75% of slaves stayed on their plantations for 10 years after the war. We didn’t need the Civil War to end slavery just as we didn’t need Federal laws to end discrimination.
We don’t need Federal laws to protect homosexuality or to promote it.
