I'm a Civil War historian who also has an interest in WWI, WWII, Medieval, and British history. As a Civil War historian, I co-edited a book of the letters of Thomas Ward Osborn, 1st New York Light Artillery. I am also an expert on the 55th Massachusetts, the 2nd black regiment from the State of Massachusetts during the Civil War. I have also shared a large collection of my research material with other writers who have published books on both the Civil War, and the Lincoln Assassination, thus being acknowledged in their publications.

Religious history isn't my specialty, and I didn't read "Killing Jesus" or watch the program. Nor did I read "Killing JFK" or "Killing Lincoln." Having been in my teens when JFK was assassinated, and voraciously reading any and all books on the topic in its aftermath, along with all the detailed research I did on Lincoln's Assassination, I watched the programs "Killing JFK" and "Killing Lincoln" and found them lacking.

I never said you weren't entitled to your point of view. You're the one who wrote a reply to my comment. It wasn't the other way around, so it appears that you had a problem with me having an opinion. Frankly, I can't stand Bill O'Reilly, and wouldn't waste a penny of my pension to purchase one of his books. I prefer digging through original source material (letters, diaries, official records, etc.) to learn about historical events, and not from somebody like Bill O'Reilly.

pay tribute to some of the most notorious American trailblazers.

Leaking the slant.

It should be 'famous trailblazers and notorious criminals'.

BUT NO, it is 'notorious trailblazers'.

And how would YOU know accurate? Are you just a contrarian about O'Reilly too or have you even read the "Killing" books?...... I didn't think so.

All four of these books are heavily researched and referenced by Martin Dugard. Footnotes and bibliographies. At least as much as many history books I've ever read. Could some professor who's spent his whole career studying one incident in history get it more accurate? Probably but who's read their books? Probably no one. They'd be too dry and boring.

Look, I am not a big fan of O'Reilly personally, even though I do occasionally watch the O'Reilly Factor. But to summarily criticize the accuracy of these books because you don't like O'Reilly and without having even read the books, I think is disingenuous.

Well good for you. Your problem is with the author, Bill O'Reilly, who you appear to hate or more accurately, "I can't stand". I am not a big fan of O'Reilly personally, even though I do occasionally watch the O'Reilly Factor. But to summarily criticize the accuracy of these books because you don't like O'Reilly and without having even read the books, I find disingenuous.

I haven't "wasted" any of my "pension" on these books either. I checked them out of the county library. And as far as researching the original source materials, that's fine if you have the time, resources and inclination to spend doing that. I raise beef cattle on a ranch in rural Florida and spend my time working our homestead. I just want some good books to relax and read at bedtime.

BTW, I haven't seen any of the movies or "programs" you mention, so I can't comment. The fact that you find them "lacking" is not surprising, given your importance and competency in the research area. But all four of these "Killing" books are heavily researched and referenced by Martin Dugard. Footnotes and bibliographies. I don't think the historical facts were just made up out of thin air. How accurate are they? I have no way of knowing. I'll leave that to someone like yourself who hasn't even read the books.

Happy Easter, bud.

The Severed Heads Campaign

Brutal, but true, the little-known account of the U.S. Army paying for beheadings during the ferocious Apache Wars.

Without question, the best magazine I have ever read.

Wow.
Make a statement then answer it.
Say you don’t like OR yet demand I accept he is accurate.
How about this, you check the accuracy of his books, because they aren’t.

Well, have you read the books or not?

Nobody is demanding that you accept that O'Reilly is accurate. But at least read the books before you claim that they aren't historically accurate. How would you know? The answer is, you don't.

Why do you bother posting to me when you answer your own questions?

Well, because you still haven't answered the question I've asked twice now, yourself. I'm answering rhetorically because you won't.

Have you read the four books or not?

You asked the question and proceeded to answer the question for me.
Run along and annoy someone else.

Hey, I'll run along but not before saying that you're the one who posted to me first by claiming that "Just because OR books are a good read, in no way makes them accurate." But you never give any proof of this. And then you're so chicken, you can't even admit that you hadn't even read the books.

Why don't YOU run along and stop making a fool of yourself.

The books are not accurate.
Only a fool would think they are.
Now, you can annoy me no longer, I am done.

Well, guess what? I'm not done with you. You're not getting off so easy.

You remind me of the Rolling Stone article on the phony, nonexistent rape story that has been in the news today. Or Harry Reid accusing Romney of not paying his taxes for ten years with no proof or evidence to back it up. Both allegations have been proved wrong and shown to be made up.

You make claims with no facts to back them up, present no evidence to prove your blanket charges and you do so without even reading the books you're making claims about. And then you accuse me of being a fool for not agreeing with your inaccurate claims.

People like you don't want to take responsibility for their behavior. You remind me of of the description Vladimir Putin has made about Obama's negotiating skills. He said, "Negotiating with Obama is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon knocks over all the pieces, shits on the board, then struts off like it won the game."

I've given you more than one chance to prove your claims about the accuracy of these books. But instead of presenting your reasons, you just reiterate the same false claims again and then walk off, launching into ad hominem attacks on me.

People like you are small. And more like the pigeon than you realize.

Yep, gross. Fox News (except Hannity?) stabs Conservatives in the back over and over again. Megan Kelly has been making sacrilegious comments about the LORD the last couple nights. GOP-E TV.

It’s been several years since I watched Fox News, or any news programs, or news channels. Back in the late 90’s, and on election night in 2000, I was only watching Fox News. Had it on all day, every day back then. When Fox News called Florida for Gore before the polls closed in the Florida Panhandle, it soured me towards the network. I eventually stopped watching O’Reilly and Hannity, then the whole channel. I prefer to get my news here.
