He has never won re-election with less than 64 percent of the vote. His approval rating is 67 percent.
This is not some senator from a deep red or deep blue state. He is, in fact, a Republican representing a swing state in a presidential year, and Democrats would quite like to unseat him.
So why does Sen. Charles E. Grassley seem almost politically invincible?
(SNIP)
Democrats looking to topple him will not have an easy path. His lowest re-election margin of victory was 64 percent in 2010. (He won 66 percent of the vote in 1986, 70 percent in 1992, 68 percent in 1998, and 70 percent in 2004, all in a state where Republicans comprise just under one third of registered voters.) Those would be strong percentages even for a Republican in a favorable state. Sen. John Cornyn won a virtually uncontested re-election in heavily RepublicanTexas with just 62 percent of the vote last fall. In Oklahoma, GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe won with 68 percent.

Grassley is anti-amnesty, anti-H1B, anti-abortion and pro-traditional marriage. He should drop those stances and listen to political consultants like Liz Mair.
He also called Obama "stupid". That is not a politically savvy thing to do according to the consultants.

Ed Schultz on Grassley: " Must be farm talk from Iowa. Or maybe he should stick to promoting his interviews with Greta Van Sunshine. No, that would be Van Susteren. But whatever. Maybe the senator had had a couple of cool ones and was jut playing with his Twitter.
Actually, I think somebody should pull the plug on grandpa`s Twitter. Don`t you think? That would be the smart thing to do.
Cornyn is a rat, in at least two ways.

Does Grassley pander to the Corn Lobby?
I wouldn’t mind the grumpy uncle going for another term.
Im in favor of ethanol, just not in my gas tanks.
Actually, I think it’s pretty amazing that Iowa has all those GOP’ers in office, considering it’s a “swing state”, leaning left, according to the pundits... ; D
Pope?
I have written to him several times about various issues. Every time, I have received a two page letter in return (clearly written by him...it is in his “style”...LOL!) addressing my concerns about the issue.
My personal favorite outburst of his was when he told the banksters to follow the Japanese Model: Resign or commit suicide...classic.
I don't know, but they certainly have his ear.
Ha! I see what you did there.
Good one; smooth as silk.
Yes, but also the wind lobby.
The media covered this story in 2014:
The House was working on the tax credits legislation, and purposely left out the wind tax credit, so that when the legislation got the senate, Grassley could add the wind tax credit to the legislation, allowing him to take credit for bringing home the pork.
He’s 81. Been Senator since ‘81.
Where’s the call for Term Limits????
He votes the way you want so he gets a pass on everything structurally wrong with the system?
Retire already.
You ‘ve served your time honorably. We need to expand the bench, bring in new blood and retire ALL these dinosaurs. A line of white haired geriatrics is NOT how you grow opposition to Obama and the destructiveness of Liberalism.
And, has I recall Senator Grassley has been ineffective in the release of the full (e.g., unredacted) Barrett Report, this status nearly a decade on.
Grassley IS the Corn Lobby.
Just FYI -
Grassley will turn 83 before the November election.
