When Israels Prime Minister Told Joe Biden: I Am Not A Jew With Trembling Knees

While the Obama Administration continues their pressure on Israel, for at least Joe Biden, it is not the first time that there has been animosity with an Israeli leader. The reality is that while some of the names change, this conflict is about Israels refusal to surrender to a Palestinian Arab enemy who seeks to destroy the Jewish nation.
The United States is wrong to pressure Israel yet, this too shall pass.
History often repeats itself.
On June 22 1982, Joe Biden was a Senator from Delaware and confronted then Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin during his Senate Foreign Relations committee testimony, threatening to cut off aid to Israel.
Begin forcefully responded,
“Don’t threaten us with cutting off your aid. It will not work. I am not a Jew with trembling knees. I am a proud Jew with 3,700 years of civilized history. Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens. Nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country. We paid for it. We fought for it. We died for it. We will stand by our principles. We will defend them. And, when necessary, we will die for them again, with or without your aid.”
As media reports that the United States Government continues to pressure Israel, America must respect the will of the Israeli public, whom overwhelmingly re-elected Benjamin Netanyahu. Rightfully, a senior Israeli elected official noted, Settlement building will be one of the basic guidelines of the next government and just as I don’t interfere in America if they build in Florida or California, they don’t need to interfere in building in Judea or Samaria.”
During the exchange in 82, Senator Biden reportedly banged the table with his fist, and Begin retorted,
“This desk is designed for writing, not for fists. Don’t threaten us with slashing aid. Do you think that because the US lends us money it is entitled to impose on us what we must do? We are grateful for the assistance we have received, but we are not to be threatened. I am a proud Jew. Three thousand years of culture are behind me, and you will not frighten me with threats. Take note: we do not want a single soldier of yours to die for us.”
Zeev Jabotinsky, the leader of the Revisionist movement, which both Begin & Netanyahu emanate from noted in 1940 that, We hold that Zionism is moral and just. And since it is moral and just, justice must be done, no matter whether Joseph or Simon or Ivan or Achmed agree with it or not. The reality is that principles matter.
World leaders would be apt to remember these words and times.

Joe Biden, desk pounder from way back.
The Jewish leaders are giants; Biden is and has always been a pissant, just like this administration.
“Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens.”
Maybe my view of history is a bit simplistic, but I do believe someone eventually did come to your aid.
Joe and Zero cannot comprehend the meaning of the phrase
“Never again” and what has historically happened to Jews with shaking knees.
WHO?
The U S? Only after being attacked by Japan and after Germany declared war. Do not forget, the U S government turned ships filled with German Jews away.
No sir, that is not one of our proudest moments.
But still, the camps were liberated.
The camps were liberated, by and large, not by military action(s) designed to liberate the camps, per se. They were never any sort of military objective, for any allied combatant. Nor were they defended by units of the German army. They were “encountered” by advancing allied armies on a piecemeal basis and likewise abandoned by camp “management” who came to realize the revenge and retribution that would accrue to those who manned the camps should a different regime come to control the geography. Which was in big time progress at the time.
Key word here is “eventually”.
The freedom of Jews from the camps was a felicitous outcome of the Allied campaign against “empirical fascism” in Europe and elsewhere. Why we did not recognize the machinations of Stalin is beyond me...
That is to say, the US and her allies were not engaged in a war to free the euro-jew population from death-camps but to eliminate the pseudo-communist “fascism” that threatened the liberty of all the theaters (Europe and Asia). As has always been reported, the Allied troops came upon the camps and were sickened by the horrors. They did not know or understand what immediately confronted them.
According to the Monroe Doctrine, we (the USA) will consistently support, defend and EXPORT liberty. This is not an empirical creed, it is a concept based in human liberty; free to be what self-determination has provided us under God’s will and desire.
More so by accident than design, I’m afraid. The holocaust was not a driver for the liberation of Europe.
Dang it! I know all that, and I said ‘eventually’. What I said is true and what he said isn’t true. By hook or crook they were liberated. Yall made me go and cuss.
Chill. Sometimes a poor choice of words causes FReepers to pounce; we’re like that most-times.
Don’t cuss. Just make a sensible reply and everyone is happy, happy, happy. We’re all in this together.
Yes, by far the majority were Soviets.

Biden threatened to cut off aid in 1982? And I thought this politicization of support for Israel in Congress was such a new thing?
Likely, as communism in the US was rampant prior to 1945. The years prior to the Depression encouraged such communist leanings as “unions”, “workers’ rights” and “universal suffrage”. FDR, while not an abject communist, did have ideological leanings toward communism due to his receiving LOTS of money from New York Unions. The difference can be found in his objection to having federal employees unionized.
They difference was that low-info voters of that time didn’t understand the difference of an socio-economic control and a socio-governing control. Communism is an socio-economic control that extends to the governing control (i.e., the government IS the economy).
We did attempt to “de-infiltrate” the communist influence in our federal government but, McCarthy took an ugly (and unconstitutional) turn when he looked to private citizens and private business. Don’t get me wrong, I believe McCarthy was sniffing the right trail, he just over-reached and got sidetracked.
The process of disposing of the Jews was well known in 1943. It was in the NT times in early 1944. Not a single bomb was dropped to stop the transport of Jews to the camps.
Yet we would run 20 sorties a night to drop papmphlets over France, the Netherlands, and Germany.
I am not a Jew, but I wonder how FDR would respond to that we’re he alive today.
We did very little to slow the process until we “stumbled” upon it.
