Barack Obama will make a long-awaited return to Kenya this July, visiting his father's homeland for the first time since becoming US president, the White House announced Monday.
During the much-delayed visit, Obama will attend a summit to encourage entrepreneurship and meet the country's controversial leader Uhuru Kenyatta.
Obama's late father was from a small village near the shores of Lake Victoria. He met Obama's white American mother in Hawaii, where they had a son before divorcing.

Hey, Obama: how about some DNA tests while you are in Kenya with your "father's" relatives so that we can be sure that your father did indeed come from Kenya and not somewhere else?
Obama: In a few years your two daughters will be out on their own.
Out of curiosity, they may decide to submit to DNA tests just to prove once and for all that your father came from Kenya, and there is nothing legally you can do to stop them.
For instance, I think Ancestry has a quick and cheap test that your two daughters can take advantage of.
There are also tv shows that trace the background of entertainment stars, and I believe the shows rely heavily on DNA tests.
Yes, you might want to go on one of those DNA tv shows---I think one of them is hosted by your professor friend at Harvard---BEFORE you go to Kenya in July, because if the DNA tests show that your father did NOT come from Kenya, it might save you from going on such an embarrassing trip to Kenya.

Women do not carry male DNA so testing the DNA of Obama’s daughters will tell nothing about Obama’s male ancestors. Men carry both male and female DNA.

The female DNA is passed from female to female. Therefore the Obama daughters would have Michelle’s DNA, and her mother’s DNA and so on. The father’s mother’s DNA would not show.
The only way to prove or disprove Obama’s parentage with DNA is to have the male DNA (Y DNA) of Obama to match with DNA from his alleged father, brothers of the father, or sons of the father. The only way to prove female parentage would be to compare Obama’s mitochondrial (mtDNA) with his mother’s DNA, her mother’s DNA or one of his mother’s sister’s DNA (if his mother was Stanley Ann Dunham, there are no known sisters).
The problem of course is getting the samples since his mother and maternal grandmother are dead and cremated. There are alleged half brothers of Barack Obama. Their Y-DNA, matched to his Y-DNA would prove whether or not they had the same father.
DNA research is not as easy as television shows purport. That is why the media and Hollywood assertion DNA proved Thomas Jefferson had an affair with the slave Sally Hemmings is false. Thomas Jefferson had no known male heirs so there is no conclusive direct line Y-DNA in a Jefferson descendant to compare to anyone. They took Y-DNA from a documented direct line male descendant of one of Thomas Jefferson’s uncles, who would have carried the Y-DNA from Thomas Jefferson’s male grandfather. This DNA was compared to African American direct line male descendants of Sally Hemmings. There were matches but not all of the male African American’s matched the Y-DNA carried by descendants of Thomas Jefferson’s uncle.
However, all the Jefferson DNA testing proved was some of the Sally Hemmings male descendants carried DNA of a Jefferson in Thomas Jefferson’s grandfather’s line. In reality, there were 50 male Jeffersons around, or passing through, Monticello who could have fathered the Sally Hemmings male children carrying Jefferson DNA. The DNA evidence that Thomas Jefferson actually fathered children with Sally Hemmings is far less conclusive than the DNA evidence presented in the OJ Simpson/Nicole Brown Simpson murder trial.
The only way to conclusively prove Thomas Jefferson fathered the Hemmings males is to dig up the body and try to extract enough DNA from the bones for comparison. Otherwise he is one of 50 “suspects”.
Obtaining Obama’s DNA, and the DNA of his alleged parents, could be more difficult than obtaining Thomas Jefferson’s actual DNA. In Jefferson’s case, the location of the grave is know, all one needs is the permission of the family or a court order to open the grave and take a sample.

In the second series of episodes, Gates learned that he is part of a genetic subgroup possibly descended from or related to the 4th-century Irish king, Niall of the Nine Hostages. He also learned that his ancestors included the Yoruba people of Nigeria. The two series demonstrated the many strands of heritage and history among African Americans.
