The German pilot suspected of deliberately crashing a plane in the French Alps last week was treated for suicidal tendencies years ago before he received his pilot's license, German prosecutors said on Monday.
This was the first acknowledgement from German officials that the pilot, Andreas Lubitz, had suffered bouts of depression and it is likely to intensify a debate about how airlines screen and monitor their pilots.

Lufthansa, the parent of the budget airline, has said it was not aware of anything in the 27-year-old's past which suggested he might have posed a risk.

The criminally insane walk among us. We are told that they are “functional”. Nope, the drugs make them APPEAR functional until they have a malfunctioning episode.

It’s becoming clear he had suicide ideation, and his depression was at times acute and also chronic.
Don’t know if he planned for it that day or just took the opportunity when it arose.
I read where something may have happened the previous day which involved his GF. That could have jolted him into suddenly acting out his long-term ideation.

German culture is largely nihilistic to the core. It’s like a country-sized Seattle.

I keep seeing, on various places on the net, that hopefully this will improve the care and compassion of the mentally ill.
I really don’t see how, other than they should not be given the keys to a plane.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read the words suicidal tendencies... it’s probably what happens in religion class when the tern nirvana is highlighted.

Unless the "suicidal tendencies" and "bouts of depression" thing is just a cover."
If, and I'm just saying if, he had been a Muslim convert or a terrorist, the government and the media would dig up and push any narrative at all that they could find in order to blame it on something other than Islam or terrorism. Like the shooting in the Paris deli just being a random act of violence.
We have example after example of the official story being a bold-faced lie used to push an agenda.
There's no reason to believe what the media is reporting is anything close to factual or accurate anymore.

I don't know what medical privacy laws are like in Germany but I did wonder if something like that happened here would medical privacy laws preclude his condition from being disclosed to his employer?
I haven't seen it a lot but I have been around guys who seemed pretty normal, but ended up doing murder. Maybe I'm just clueless but I sure had no clue they were crazy. Maybe I'm the neighbor who seems stupid when they say "he was a quite man who kept to himself" but I wonder if a lot of this is 20/20 hindsight and stuff like this is just gonna happen with no good way to head it off before it goes bad.

blurred photo of 26 yr. old flight attendant ex-girlfriend with Lubitz. Quote:
"Today we learn that the co-pilot was about to become a father. According to Bild, his former girlfriend, a secondary school teacher, would have announced two weeks ago to her students that she was pregnant. One source even claims that the two were getting ready to get married soon.
However, the overall picture of their relationship looks far from being perfect. The soon-to-be mother would have announced to Andreas Lubitz, on the eve of the tragedy, her desire to break up with him and leave their shared home."

Well, no wonder! ... If your job was that of a “crash pilot,” you’d have suicidal tendencies too!
