http://www.bloombergview.com/articles/2015-03-27/bergdahl-lawyer-says-he-was-awol-not-a-deserter

The gist of the article is poor Bowe was going to "headquarters" to report that his superiors were being MEAN to him.

And then he was going to return to base.

So, are we supposed to believe that this deserter’s captors were just going to let him walk away so he could “return to base”?

I’m not an attorney but I’ll be sure to stay in a Holiday Inn so I can become an overnight prosecutor who prosecutes this piece of detestable vermin.

With the exception of a handful of soldiers captured at the beginning of the invasion of Iraq, every servicemen lost or captured in Iraq were brutally murdered. Why is this guy the only survivor?

The Taliban does not take prisoners. Bergdahl would not have lasted as long as he did unless he was useful to them, otherwise, he would have been killed within a few days of his capture.

Not for nothing but why is nobody talking about potential charges of Treason again the Obummer?

Just a theory: Obummer knew the guy was a defector (he’s the President! Of COURSE he knew) and judging how eager he’s been to release terrorists all year, he found out Berghole got fed up playing with the Taliban and wanted to come home so a deal was struck where Bergdahl would play POW, Obummer would get his chance to free the 5 and reinforce the enemy, Berghole would come home, the Taliban get their 5, everybody is happy and satisfied. Only Obummer just didn’t count on Bergholes unit exposing him on national TV which by the way, weren’t they threatened to shut up? But I mean what does it matter, it’s not like Repubs will do anything about it.

Good luck with that, Skippy (BB, not you!). When I was an Air Force Area and then Circuit Defense Counsel, we used to say that in the vast majority of our defense cases, our job was to make sure the government had done its job. Not sure how well that’ll work on this one, but it might be very effective.

I’m sure the Army has heard that lame attempt from thousands of deserters over the years.

If, by some miracle, he is convicted of desertion I have no doubt that he will be given a presidential pardon.

He was going to return...to commit JIHAD in the name of Allah! He just wanted to get better training than what the Army provided!

He sent his clothes home.

He went there without his weapon? Really? After all, a razor is a must carry.

And it just so happened that while he was gone the enemy miraculously learned how to improve the success of their attacks. Pure coincidence.

Ridiculous.

1. He packed up all his personal items and sent them home.

2. He left his fellow soldiers vulnerable. After being relieved from guard duty, Bergdahl walked away and was not present the following morning. In other words, he endangered his companions first by deserting a small outpost set up quickly with vehicles and razor wire strung between the vehicles. Small outposts like that have limited fighters, and his desertion left them with less firepower.

3. The HQ was much more easily notified by traditional means such as phone, mail, email, etc. To leave in the middle of the night from an outpost is not likely.

4. An HQ is more accessible in the daytime than in the middle of the night.

5. The enemy is a likelihood anywhere outside the concertina. One doesn’t just walk away with any sense of personal security at all.

6. Bergdahl left his weapons behind. That is not the act of a warrior who intended to remain with his unit.

I don’t know what to think about this case. I don’t rule out that he went out to get high and got ambushed by terrorists after his drug connection got killed. But I could easily be wrong.
