Observations from the Protestant Reformation.

The Reformation was not over the violent content of Catholicism. Even so, the passions stirred over issues of great consequence lead, at least in part, to wars lasting the better part of 2 centuries, and cultural friction to the present day, half a millennium later.

The violent faction of Islam is not going to recede from a fatwa, or series of fatwas. Even if an Islamic reformation were to occur (nothing on the horizon that I can see), look for things to get much, much, much more violent in the short to medium term, and for the whole thing to play out over centuries.

I agree. Given that experience I wouldn't wish a reformation on any religion.
