High-ranking members of some of Europe's most controversial parties descended on St. Petersburg on Sunday to participate in the first International Russian Conservative Forum, an ultranationalist convention glorifying Russia as a refuge for the world's most marginalized far-right political forces.
Through the course of the day, U.S. President Barack Obama was called a Nazi, white Christians were urged to reproduce, gays were referred to as perverts.
"The American way of life is not at the center of our politics, nor are gays and lesbians," said Udo Voigt, a member of the European Parliament and the former head of Germany's far-right National Democratic Party. "Our focus is on our families and our children."
The resolution was the culmination of a full day of 10-minute speeches by more than 30 ultranationalist commentators and the leaders of radical right-wing parties from seven European Union countries, including Greece, Italy, Germany and Britain. They blamed the United States for the Ukraine crisis, deplored the erosion of traditional values in the West and praised President Vladimir Putin's peacemaking skills. Communist regional lawmaker Irina Komolova had urged St. Petersburg governor Georgy Poltavchenko to cancel the forum. Komolova's appeal, as of Thursday, had not been answered.
Far-right parties in 15 out of 21 European Union member states have openly professed sympathy toward Russia, according to a study published by the Budapest-based Political Capital institute last March.

“right” must mean something very different over there
It does, but it’s interesting how the term “The American Way of Life” has come to mean internationally the exact opposite of what it meant when Superman first referred to it. :)
Nazi’s are called right wing by the fascists. Anything other than bolshevism and fascism to them is “Right wing”. It actually kind of makes sense...they are so far left that left of center to them is far right.
Bump
Well, it doesn’t mean ‘commie’ or ‘socialist’ that’s for sure.
The way I look at it.....two sides of the same coin. But they look at it through the lens of socialism.....whether it’s international socialism or national socialism. No difference, really.
It could mean anything these days
And the problem is?
Obama is a Communist....which is why they called him a Nazi. Because they are Communists.
So where is the controversy?
Is “far right” coming to mean nationalists vs global interests?
Yes, to a degree...but it's not hard to wrap your head around the difference.
It's a much older culture so the history is different.
Technically speaking, we have the same sort of extreme right wing here, in the form of Fascist skin head types, Anarchists, etc...But the Democrat party has spent a lot of time and money redefining what the right is, in the US.
From the real (not perceived) textbook, Conservatives are actually more in the center of the right wing spectrum. The democrats have us as the far right, but it's not even remotely true..
Frankly, it's better in the US, to avoid thinking in these terms that the Democraps have designed for us...If you cannot define yourself, they will certainly do it for you and they have.
Think about the political spectrum as a circle.....
It’s not a straight line.
For example, on the circle, the far left and the far right are locate next door to each other..but use different issues/words and define themselves differently yet life under either of them appears the same.
It’s not a problem for a anarchist to work closely with a commie, for example...as they have done many times.
Nazis and Communists were fighting for the same constituency, the working class, when that happens, even though for all intents and purposes they are the same, except for the uniforms, they become each others’ biggest enemy.
True enough in Europe. The Nazi’s will always have the Fascists to cozy up to. The Commies hate this so it put’s them at odds or so it was during WWII.
However, on some issues in the West like anti-globalism, you will see them partying together like it’s 1999.....lol
So I really don’t think that anything is a given with the game of Politics..
My entire point of responding on this thread was to address something that has bothered me for a long time, and that is the improper use by many on the right of spectrum’s misuse of the term far right or extreme right.
I think it’s because they have not studied the spectrum as a whole and don’t really know how to define themselves within that spectrum in the proper way.
They see it as a straight line and not as a circle and then unfortunately define themselves improperly. This seems to happen only in the US and it’s because we let the democrats define us..as extreme right conservatives when in reality we are right of center.
This has also caused the elite Washington (big government statist) Republicans to define themselves as conservatives when in fact they are further right then we are....lol....go figure..
Anyway....it bugs the heck out of me...
The confusion is due to the fact that people confuse the issues that define Left and Right in the United States today (basically welfare state vs. anti-welfare state) with the issues that define Left and Right at other times in history or in other places.
In late 18th century France, the Right were the monarchists, the Left anti-monarchists. Since monarchy isn't an issue today, it's a useless definition by our standards, just as they would have thought that defining Left and Right in terms of big vs. small government wasn't what the debate was about.
Similarly, the political spectrum in early 20th century Europe was defined in terms of nationalists parties (backed by industrialists and aristocrats) vs. Marxist internationalist parties (backed by labor unions), with the former being Right Wing and the later Left Wing.
Similarly, in European countries today, the most pressing issue isn't the size of government or the welfare state, it's whether something will be done to restrict Third World immigration, and whether you're pro or anti-EU. That's what defines the "Left" vs. the "Right" in Europe. So by definition the "Far Right" in Europe are the ethno-nationalists, the Left are the multiculturalist EUcrats.
Trying to project contemporary US politics into other places or times makes no sense. In the Bianchi vs. Neri conflict in 13th Century Florence, which side were the "liberals" and which side were the "conservatives" by contemporary US standards?
LOL! Now that is something to argue about while inebriated...
