Two years after she underwent a double mastectomy to cut her cancer risk, actress and U.N. envoy Angelina Jolie has had surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes for the same reason, she wrote in The New York Times on Tuesday.
Jolie, 39, carries a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Her mother was diagnosed with the latter at age 49 and died seven years later.
In her New York Times op-ed Tuesday, Jolie said she had been planning the latest preventive surgery for some time.

exactly right, but those intent on criticizing won’t believe that.
Actually, we should throw our support behind people who are actually struggling with cancer.
Like at least two people I know here in forum.
lots to criticize her for, but criticizing for this just seems, to quote another poster, “stupid and mean.”
not a zero sum game, we can actually do both.
While struggles post was funny, he/she didn’t win for post of the morning. I woke up at 7 and was scanning the thread about the plane crash in France. Someone was quoting from Fox News, saying that Shep Smith said that the plane made a rapid controlled descent. Another poster said “The only rapid controlled descent Shep understands is from the last guy to kneel in front of him.” I lost it. He won.
These things are not done for “fun.”
There are genetic markers that can be used to predict with almost certainty that you will have a certain form of cancer. Rather than worry about the impacts, people have preventative surgery.
Anyone who thinks she is having surgery to get attention doesn’t know anything about cancer markers, surgery, or Angelina. She gets attention every time she steps out of her door. She doesn’t need or crave any more.
If you think a surgeon of any repute is going to just hack a woman apart, is in need of other things to think about.
well, now women will know there are blood tests that can monitor for chemical markers before ovarian cancer develops, so they don’t have to have surgery too early- or too late
I don’t realize this
Articles have stated that blood tests were showing early indicators of cancer - thus she could well have been 'sick'.

Okay, I gotta find that post now.
“Virtually none of these resections of tissue will prevent the onset of cancer by the triggering of the BRAC1 gene by whatever triggers cancer cells to form. This is not advised prevention.
This is what I was wondering about. Even if she removes the body parts, the gene is still there.
Hillary should remove her face to keep from getting ugly . . . oops, too late!
absolutely true, but those who seek to denigrate her choice will not see that as even possible.
Face Off, starring Hillary and some poor shlub who lost his face to her.
Unfortunately the hormone treatment also causes cancer!!!!!
Here Ya go:
I think Shep just said something very troubling. A steep and controlled decent.
The only thing Shep knows about steep and controlled decent is from the last man kneeling before him.

The fact is that even makeup can no longer hide Hillary's age. She now looks like a conniving grandmother as in COME CLOSER MY DEAR SO I CAN EAT YOU!
LOL!
That is the Post Of The Day.
The one area in which I feel sorry for Chelsea. All she has to look forward to is growing up looking like her mom.
South Africa apparently can perform penile transplants.
Hillary could go there for her surgery.
