He said “controlled” (DVR).

Not that it really makes much difference. All pilots try to control it as much as possible, unless there is something wrong with them, or so bad with the plane that it’s not possible.

Sure, every pilot is going to try to “control” a rapidly descending aircraft if for no better reason than self preservation.

But not all attempts at control succeed. And unless the pilots attempts to regain control of the aircraft succeed, then the aircraft or its descent cannot be described as “controlled”. Regardless of what nonsense issues from the mouth of Shep Smith.
