Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin has touted the country's combat helicopters as the best such vehicles in the world.
Russian-made combat helicopters are the best such vehicles in the world, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.
He gave the thumbs-up after flying on board the next-generation reconnaissance and combat helicopter Ka-52, which he touted as a "flying tank".
"Today I was cruising around aboard this flying tank", Rogozin tweeted, referring to the Kamov Ka-52 "Alligator" copter.
According to him, the helicopter "is easily controlled and it is packed full of advanced automated systems." Rogozin described the Ka-52 as a less maneuverable vehicle when compared to a light helicopter, which he said is only natural for an "armored copter." "Right now, the Ka-52's helicopter carrier-based version is being developed. On the whole, Russian attack helicopters are the best in the world," Rogozin said. "Have a nice day, everybody, " he added in a final tweet showing him sitting in the Ka-52's cockpit.
Last month, he tweeted that he had received an official perpetual private pilot's certificate.
In a separate twitter message, Rogozin said that only the most advanced military hardware will be showcased at the May 9 Moscow Victory Day Parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the capitulation of Nazi Germany in World War Two.

The dual rotary wing set themselves make for a huge target without mentioning the mechanical nightmare it takes to run them. I wonder how well that contraption auto rotates to make a safe landing?
Only driven by a little old lady from Pasadena who had the oil changed every 1000 miles.

I too looked at the picture and said that dual nightmare. You better have excellent mechanics to keep that dual drive working.

I’ve always wondered what those lines are on the canopy. The Harrier has them as well. Are they det cord or something in case of a bail out?
Just like a poop movie, whenever the producer is the only one bragging, its is far from the loud promotion.
As with every other Ruski Mil equipment, it indeed is effective against poorly defended and civilians and still by SOP fails up against Western technology.
For the Harrier, they are indeed explosives in the case of an ejection. However, ejection-seat based helicopters have not yet come into fruition...

I am no engineer but I would assume that putting ejection seats on a helicopter might be a BAD idea.
Too hot? Turn leetle crank and window open. Want cigarette? Poosh button, 30 seconds later, lighter pop out.
Seriously, I'm surprised at all the counter-rotating comments. There are pros and cons, but Kamov has been making them for just about forever, and is considered the prime design feature of the bureau. I doubt there are any serious mechanical issues with the setup.
Also, the American Kaman Husky used a significantly more oddball intermeshing rotor design, and that worked just fine.
The real test on whether or not that design is the “Cat’s Meow” is how fast Bell and Sakorski have copied it...... NOT.
Bailing out of a helo is bailing into the rotors.
Thing looks like it was put together with bailing wire and duct tape...
Problem is, we can't get any of the engineers to volunteer for a test ejection...
