House Speaker John Boehner showed up President Barack Obama earlier this month by inviting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge Congress against a nuclear deal with Iran. Now, with negotiations stalling over the timing of sanctions relief and centrifuge development, the GOP leader is setting the stage to do it again.
Boehner (R-Ohio) is expected lead a group of lawmakers to Israel at the end of March, a trip that could coincide with the March 31 deadline to get a framework agreement in place, according to reports. Boehner spokesman Kevin Smith confirmed the visit and said it was planned prior to Israel’s election this week that all but assured Netanyahu a fourth term as prime minister. He would not confirm the timing of the visit.
But the partisan nature of the trip is hard to ignore as it further cements Republicans and Netanyahu as allies determined to sink an agreement between world powers and Tehran.
“The Speaker will visit Israel during the next district work period,” Smith told Foreign Policy. “He looks forward to visiting the country, discussing our shared priorities for peace and security in the region, and further strengthening the bond between the United States and Israel.”
Boehner’s visit is a win-win: If the talks fail, he and Netanyahu will have a forum to tell Israelis and Americans it was a bad idea from the start and to blast Obama for pursuing it. If a deal is reached, the speaker can make the case that it won’t last beyond the end of the president’s second term while arguing it would allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons and threaten America’s most important ally in the Mideast.
National Security Council Bernadette Meehan told Foreign Policy the White House had no comment on the trip.

Looks like this might have been set up so that if Netanyahu had lost, first foreign visitors to new PM likely would have been US congressional delegation.
Bonehead better rethink and reprogram his brain, if he has one. Without Israel America will suffer huge attacks. The reason is Israel is like a block on Iran. Israel could destroy Iran if they decide to let loose with all barrels.
Republicans stupidly over play every decent hand they ever get! Are they in cahoots with the anti Israel crowd or what?
This is NOT about Israel, but about obnoxious behavior by Boehner to shrink Israel’s support among Democrats.
This asinine Republican strategy of turning Israel into a Republican prop is going to bite the Republican behind and endanger Israel. I hope Netanyahu can read this screen grab by Boehner.
This is a huge mistake to make this grand production all about Republicans all the time, IF, these Republicans even really care about the security of Israel. Boehner wants to rub Obama’s nose in it, and is willing to hurt Israel to do it.
Cutting out all BIPARTISAN support of Democrats loyal to Israel from this Republican show-stealing media splash, on an internationally viewed stage is very risky to Israel, and it marginalizes Israel’s Democrat support, Democrats who have to resent this showy effort to elbow even Israel off it’s own stage, to make room for Republicans promoting Republican-only support.
It’s disgusting, transparent and makes Republicans enemies for Israel and for the R Party, both domestically and internationally.
Israel’s security relies on bipartisan support and has had it, up to now, UNTIL stupid Boehner shows his fanny, for political points.

The GOPe is about maintaining perks from safe seats and just having enough juice to keep the money coming in for corporate client donors, who are their major responsibility, by keeping the agencies off their backs as much as possible. They are extremely uncomfortable in the majority, as running things takes too much time away from business as usual.
Road trips are a wonderful way to deflect attention. Israel? Cynical equation. The GOPe knows it will be very lucky to pull 25% of the "Jewish" vote in most districts. But nothing like a trip to the Holy Land to excite the Christian voter, though!
Democrats supporting Israel is an oxymoron at best, same as if democrats supporting life in the womb is an oxymoron. Democrats are plain out communists and anti semites who hate Israel, The God of Israel and His Christ, America, family and anything that resembles sanity at all. They are nuts to the core and their is no cure for their madness.
Netanyahu would disagree. Boehner is using Israel. I don’t like it, that’s all.
