Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk thinks every car on the road today and many more in the future will eventually be outlawed.
The reason? They require humans to drive.
In the distant future, [legislators] may outlaw driven cars because theyre too dangerous, Musk told NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang at companys annual developers conference Tuesday. You cant have a person driving a two-ton death machine.

Will the Asian robotic cars be the worst drivers?
Excellent! - This must be the observation of the week.
When old cars are banned...only outlaws will be able to fix them
I am looking forward to self-driving cars
I go back and forth each week from Buffalo, NY to Boston, MA and the drive is a pain.
If I could go to sleep in the car and arrive in time to go to work, I would GLADLY do it
That and my self-driving electric helicopter idea are going to be big
I would ask why, but he wouldn't hear me due to his head being up his Marxist ass.
I forgot all about that! Thanks for posting that
The logical outcome of such a move would be to make every trip subject to the control and monitoring of the State. The next step will be a requirement to first justify and obtain a permit to use the State’s resources to embark on any and every trip in the State controlled and managed vehicles.
I’m not sure how this will pan out.
In some ways, I see robotic cars as the ultimate public transit system, since it defeats the argument of inconvenience and schedule freedom, but would allow a network to regulate traffic.
Not that I think this would be a good thing.
One small quibble, though: Hughes used his OWN money...
What will the poor drive, tell me?
They can hardly afford the used cars that we have today and I hardly think that a self-driving car will be cheaper.
Freedom of movement is one of the pillars of liberty. In this country that often requires a car. Take that from the poor and you are a disgusting human being.
Oh, and I guess driving any un-mapped road (like on a farm) wouldn’t compute?
Then I will be an outlaw.
So be it...
I am cool with this. I want to have a car be able to drive me around when I am 80. It beats not having any transportation and have to beg friends and family to take me to a doctors appointment. Not everything is negative. I find this quite positive in fact.
This guy is a poster child for why in America we shouldn’t have ignored the Constitution and allowed crony capitalists, ie state socialists, to take over our government.
An all new meaning to Happy Hour!
Transportation neutrality, or the "Affordable Car Act"?

The leftist elitist see us as disgusting human beings already, so that works for them.
Computer-driven cars... hmmmmm.
I guess he has never heard of hackers... or software glitches.
Why are elitists such controlling a***holes?
Hubris. They think they are better and smarter than the rest of us.
I’ve seen tech screw up way too often.
I’ve had people argue with me that I don’t know where it is that I work because their GPS says it is Home Depot.
We aren’t Home Depot.
OH, and Navteq insists their database is 100% correct, no changes are needed, their field tech has “driven the directions and verified them”.
So I told them: “Your field tech is stating that he physically saw five different businesses at my truck exit. I defy you and he to point out for me where Home Depot, UPS, Storm King, Do It Best, and Fed Ex are at my truck exit.”
what about truck drivers? Motorcycles? Will they be driverless also?
How will the driverless cars deal with these:
potholes.
Tree limbs on roads.
Deer.
skunks.
squalls.
