FLINT, MI -- A Flint man and Marine veteran imprisoned in Iran more than three years has renounced his Iranian citizenship and is requesting deportation from the country.
A statement from Hekmati's family details what they call torture, abuse and a forced confession that he has been through. Those claims detail poor nutrition, foot whippings and long stretches of solitary confinement.
"Once deported, he promises never to return," the family said in the statement. ****snip**** In August 2011, Hekmati was arrested in Iran on allegations that he was a spy. Family members say he was making the trip to visit his grandmother in Tehran after getting permission from the Iranian Interests Section of the Pakistani Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Initially, he was sentenced to death. The sentence was overturned, and he was later charged with cooperating and collaborating with the U.S. government, and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

On the facts as presented, he was no longer on active duty, but he may have still been, say, an S1 or S2 Reservist.

Call me cold-hearted but here goes:
I am second generation American on my father’s side (my mother was a member of The Mayflower Society) and his mother escaped Lithuania and immigrated to the USA. I know that somewhere over there I have relatives but I would never go over there for any reason and I would not do it even if it was my Grandmother.
As a matter of fact, I held not only the country of Russia but the entire USSR at risk when I was on those ICBM launch crews and would not have batted an eye if I vaporized Lithuania or any other of those countries.
My point is, why in the heck did this man go to such a hellhole as Iran even if it was his Grandmother? He should have been adult enough to understand the people who run that country are batsh!t crazy and would probably do something to him.
Maybe this is the guy that Zero’s talking about?
