A California couple told they were having a girl got the shock of their life when surprise ... it was a boy!
I had been up for 24 hours and I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, Kyle Williams, the proud, but confused father, told ABC News.
Danielle Williams had a sonogram back in October 2014, 20 weeks into her pregnancy, her husband told ABC News.
The technician informed them they would be adding a second daughter to their family and they were thrilled.

I never had an Ultra sound when I was pregnant. —
I think the fathers should have the ultra sounds.
Just to make everything ‘fair’.
I think it’s “news” because it allows the paper to mention the older child with the rare blood disease and their foundation. A hook to hang a plug, in other words.
However, according the article, ultrasounds at 20 weeks are very successful in identifying the baby’s sex.
“A California couple told they were having a girl got the shock of their life when surprise ... it was a boy!”
Been there, done that. Except we were told we were having a boy.
5 years ago I was working in our local emergency department. I had just come out of a patient room shaking my head. The nurses looked at me and ask what was wrong.. I sadly replied I just saw this child.....it is the worst case of congenital absence of a penis I have ever seen !. One nurse ask me “what does this mean ??” With great difficulty in maintaining my straight face I replied....”Its’ a GIRL”. Thought I was gonna die for a minute there..
I’m not understanding why this is so surprising that it makes the news. Conventional wisdom has it that if the meat and potatoes are visible, it’s a boy; if the baby is sitting with the legs closed such that the meat and 2 veggies are not visible, the baby could be of either gender.
My wife wanted a girl desperately. All of her friends supported her emotionally by telling her it was a girl because, "You're carrying low (or high)" "I can tell from the back that it's a girl" "You're walking like it's a girl."
Ultrasound said differently. So did anatomy at birth. Matthew is in college now.
Wait just a minute.
1) First, the mother was having a C-section but then "he" saw it wasn't a girl. The author needs to review Journalism 101.
2) Williams, (the dad?) waited for the doctor to confirm it was a boy. Was that because he wanted the doctor to surprise the mom two seconds later or because he wasn't sure and wanted confirmation? Please don't let this be the family joke or it'll scar the boy forever.
Our last two children, I predicted with 100% certainty that one was a boy and one was a girl, I would have bet my life savings on it. No ultra sounds and I was correct on both of them.
(Of course they were adoptees.)
The dad was probably watching the surgery.
It says the technology has improved but still, the angle of the view, position of limbs, and/or cord placement can fool the eye, so it's just not a good idea to put faith in the ultrasound for ascertaining sex.
It may be correct in most cases, but it is still a subjective test. I wouldn't paint walls or buy expensive DNA-specific baby items until I knew for sure.
In her 35 years as a practicing Ob/Gyn, she has never seen a mistake like this with one of her patients, said Dr. Laura Corio a gynecologist with Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York.
That's a weird statement on a number of levels.
We knew the sex of some of our babies before birth. The ultrasound reports were all accurate.
There was one (the 6th?) where the tech wouldn’t tell me anything. Usually they talk: “I see all the chambers of the heart. There are the kidneys,” but this one was totally blank. Finally I asked, “Does everything look all right?” and she said, “You’ll have to talk to your doctor.”
When I got home, I called my doctor, she called the radiology practice, and they said everything looked normal. Just a tech having a grumpy day.
Maybe her patients didn’t rely on ultrasound to determine the sex.
One of my friends asked the screener, “What is it?” and they guy said, “It’s a fish.”
Don't worry, liberals may just take them to court to make that happen.
It’s a changeling.
I have five children and I found out the sex of each of them when they were born. Turns out that this method is 100% accurate.
How awful! We had two miscarriages (very early) before our son, and if a tech had acted sketchy like that, my wife would have had a meltdown.
But then at birth, that’s too late to send the kid back for an exchange if you didn’t get the gender you wanted. ;)
The older girl named her doll the unused girls name? Charlee?
At birth you fall in love instantly with someone you’d never seen before so it doesn’t matter!
(-:
I had one after #6, and then got much more nervous through my later pregnancies.
