[Snip]...The resolution, written by student Matthew Guevara of the School of Social Ecology, stated that "the American flag has been flown in instances of colonialism and imperialism" and noted that flags "construct paradigms of conformity and sets homogenized standards."

How many are U.S. citizens, have green cards, illegal, received gov't assistance for school?
bump!
I have little doubt they're citizens. Most immigrants, legal or otherwise, are too busy trying to get ahead, to have time for these political stunts. Hanoi Jane and Paris John (Kerry) weren't immigrants, yet they aided and comforted an enemy that kiled 60K GI's. A juvenile college stunt over the flag pales in comparison. Kids will be kids.
When I was in school a fellow EE major took a philosophy class. He wrote his term paper with a bunch of words strewn together much like the above. The paper really made no sense but he got a A from the prof.
I was on the UC Irvine campus this morning. At the entrance near the administration building, Old Glory was proudly waving in the Santa Ana wind.
Ya ya, we need millions more immigrants, legal or otherwise...They work hard and try to get ahead, unlike shiftless lazy American morons.
first generation fifth column.
Oh, and regarding illegals...no they are not "too busy trying to get ahead" because they are ahead just by being here and "dreamers" are certainly not absent from state schools here in Mexifornia.
And to think, immigrants used to bend down and kiss the ground when they landed in the USA!
Now they spit in our eye.
The correct response is:
Yes, I’ve heard about that derangement syndrome. I believe there is help you can get, clinically.
Real American students are studying or ‘recreating’.
No time for anti-flag crap.
Or merely first generation SWPL*. At least since the 1960's, campus politics has almost always been left-wing and anti-American in orientation. Bruce Springsteen's entire oeuvre is anti-American - the way he goes on, you'd think the US was hell on earth. Born in the USA was this extended whinefest. And the amusing thing is that the GOP picked this song as the anthem for the Reagan campaign before BS complained.
* I'd be a little more cautious with terms like fifth column, which should only become an issue in wartime. It's not as if they championed some other country - this was garden-variety college leftism.
I expect anyone doing the rough Atlantic crossing was going to kiss the ground when he set foot on dry land. Between the danger of shipboard epidemics, the crowded and unsanitary conditions on the ship, the lousy food and the constant seasickness, it's no surprise that any passenger would have been happy to get off the ship. If these students are in fact immigrants, and not born in this country as I suspect, I doubt they'd have understood the significance of arriving stateside at a tender age. For them, it would just be an adventure in a new place their parents had told them about.
I can't speak to your experience, but back in college, I hung out with lefties in student government. They were anything but shiftless and lazy. These were A type personalities racking up bullet points on their resumes. Today, they are successful professionals with LinkedIn profiles. And yes, many are still diehard leftists. I can't tell if they were citizens, but they spoke with vanilla regional accents, depending on their home states.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. But thanks.
I do.
I teach federal government at a local college.
Usually about half my class is Hispanic.
The illegal alien percentage runs about half of that number.
I don't ask but at some point in the class, especially when we discuss national security and immigration and border control, the illegals will proudly say they are illegal.
I am constantly baffled by all those idiots out there saying illegals are “living in the shadows” when they most certainly are not, and in fact, are in your face about it.
Have you considered sending an anonymous tip-off to la migra, or would that not be considered cricket?
Seriously.
