Coming from a military guy that understood the seniority of the military (with the President as the commander in chief) I can see his viewpoint.

I’m not a legal expert, but the Senate is not under that same framework.

DO you think a General should know that the US congress and Senate are not subordinates to the president, and do not fall under ANY chain of command? DO you think he should know that an individual Senator does not have a superior he takes commands from?

I know its a really high bar. Its middle school civics class stuff/

General Eaton is an asshat, who knows not the Constitution he swore an oath to protect, and defend. The only chain of command exists in the military. In Mordor on the Potomac, there exists "three separate, but equal, branches" in Government; Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Not one above the other.

Hell, I was just a Marine Sergeant, and I'm smarter than a damned two-star honey bucket?

Bastard needs to take up fishing instead of opining.

He is not acting as Commander in Chief in this capacity, so the chain of command argument is not valid. I think Cotton and others knew that Obama was going to try to find some way to get around having any input or approval from the Senate, either before or after these negotiations, and sending this letter was a brilliant way to get that out in the open and to assert the Senate's rightful role - which for this issue in particular, is vitally important.

All this chain of command crap. This is a matter far above his pay grade.
