"I had three sons of O come up on me in a full train in the middle of the day. They are idiots."

I had a similar event a while back in traffic: 3 of his other sons decided I was in their way, and wanted no doubt to admonish me at the next light we stopped at.
As one was getting out of the car behind me, shouting something unintelligible and heading my way, he chanced to see me reaching into the back seat of my Bronco, and re-thought his intentions. Little did he know, all I had was a knife...

Hmm. Three concurring posts so far, plus the article.

I can't recall the last time I heard about a group of white guys accosting a black person -- in this century, I mean.

Surprised you’re not in jail for hurting those “innocent” chosen people?

I’d be in jail for sure...

He spoke out against the city and the justice system because he’d previously been mugged, injured in the mugging, and although a perp was arrested, he went unpunished. The State used him to set an example. They didn’t want others to think they could get away with taking the law into their own hands. The Grand Jury refused to indict him on any of the more serious charges, and ended up indicting him on criminal possession of a weapon, plus possession of two other illegal weapons in his house. Having lived in NY State my whole life, and worked as a C.O. in NY’s prison system for 25 years, I believe he would have been charged by the D.A. whether he spoke out or not.

"You know, they couldn’t make movies like that today because it would be considered racists and romanticize “gun violence.”

Sure they could, as long as long as they had a gun-hating dumbass like Liam Neeson playing the lead...

This was in the '90s, things were a bit different then; in a case like that of three on one in this particular hood, against a college student, where one of the perps were armed-- no way I would have had to worry. I didn't bother calling the cops, no point-- justice was served. If it happened today, I'm sure it would be different.

Believe what you will, but there wasn't any talk of prosecuting him until after he started running his mouth. ...and the official change of demeanor did seem rather, vindictive.

“They’re big and brave in a group. Get them alone, and they’re pussies. “

And they often conceal their faces as many in Ferguson did as they burned and pillaged.

Big,bad cowards.

....ok....

Full train, middle of a winter day...I was on my way back to the City with my bags. I wasn't really in a great mood as I'd just had an unhappy parting with a lady friend.

I was leaning up against a pole and these three sons of 0 came into the car and squeezed past me. I didn't move and that apparently bothered one of them, so he shoved me as hard as he could and caught me off balance such that I went flying into the wall of the car. I recovered, straightened out my coat, prepared myself for whatever would be required and returned to the pole where I faced them.

The "alpha" began to berate me. That was easy enough to ignore and I simply stood still and waiting for my cue, whatever it might be. After about 30 seconds the three of them turned and scurried out the door to the cars ahead like, well, like scared rodents.

That's it. I never had to lift a finger. I surmise there might have been an intimidating figure showing himself behind me, but I can't prove it. I still recall the scared looks on their faces as they peeked back from the next car to see if I was following them.

The reason I wasn't more aggressive was twofold: first, I was new to the City from the south and had no real idea just how much urban blacks seethe with irrational hatred for white males -- so I guess I thought I was dealing with normal human beings, which I will unabashedly state they are not. The second is I was feeling a bit like a partial instigator because I didn't yield when they tried to get past me, and that's not the same as being on the footing where you know you are completely innocent and have all of heaven's righteousness coursing through your veins. Oh, three...I don't like to risk being arrested. I know that once I get started in a situation like that...you know, you have to fight to win.

Another time in Grand Central Station is pretty cool too -- same thing in a different way: a single son-of-0 who outweighed me by about 40-50 lbs started getting in my face...and again, in the middle GCT, I'm not inclined to start swinging. So I stood right there looking back at him as he ranted on. I noticed a cop a few yards away who was watching the situation. The idiot then turned to the cop and started ranting at him! Clearly there was nothing for me to do but stand back and enjoy the show.

And it was beautiful: The cop said something into his radio, and before you could count to three, a very large contingent of the many armed military personnel who guard GCT heard the call and came trotting up with the most amazing looking guns and uniforms, some kevlar, some camo. There must have been at least a dozen.

And these good servants of our great nation took ahold of the annoying afro-American and shoved him away and out onto the Saturday morning sidewalk of 42nd Street. I don't know what happened after that but I'm sure the angels rejoiced.

So God sends the strong breeze. Sometimes its your leaves that shake, as in the story of LambSlave, sometimes it someone elses.

A NYC Hero

“I decided to shoot as many as I could as quickly as I could. I did a fast draw, and shot with one hand (my right), pulling the trigger prior to the gun being aligned on the targets. All actual shots plus my draw time occurred easily within 1.6 seconds or less. This is not as difficult to do as some might think, and occasionally I give a description of the technique along with a re-enactment. The first shot hit Canty in the center of the chest. After the first shot my vision changed and I lost my sense of hearing. The second shot hit lightning fast Barry Allen in the upper rear shoulder as he was ducking (later the bullet was removed from his arm). The third shot hit the subway wall just in front of Cabey; the fourth shot hit Cabey in the left side (severing his spinal cord and rendering him paraplegic). The fifth shot hit Ramseur’s arm on the way into his left side.”

Do you really think that NY wasn’t going to prosecute him seeing that he was a white man who shot 4 blacks with a weapon he didn’t have a permit for? As soon as they brought him back to the city on January 3rd 1985, he was arraigned on four counts of attempted murder. One of the few public figures to criticize the shooting was New York Mayor Ed Koch who, two days after the story broke, labeled the action “animal behavior” and said “a vigilante is not a hero.” Koch was a Democrat as was D.A. Robert M. Morgenthau. No way Goetz was going to get out of being charged with something.
