An Illinois high school principal is defending his decision to exclude white students from a Black Lives Matter event held at his school.
On February 27th, Oak Park and River Forest High School principal, Nathaniel Rouse, hosted a Black Lives Matter event exclusively for black students. The assembly was intended to culminate Black History Month with a discussion on race relations. Approximately 350 black individuals attended the event. When white students attempted to attend the assembly, however, they were denied entry.
Parents who were upset over the schools decision to exclude non-black students from the event voiced their opinion to the Chicago Tribune. Rouse responded to the concerns of the parents by stating, First and foremost, this is not meant to give a connotation that we were trying to be exclusive.
In a statement on the Oak Park and River Forest High School website, the school addressed the controversy: [S]ome students and parents expressed confusion and concern about the event being for Black students only. Information about the event lacked clarity about this aspect of the conversation, and the high school is committed to improving communications in the future. Further conversations among and across other racial affinity groups shall take place at the high school in the coming months and into next year.
Rouse defended his decision to keep non-black students from the assembly by referring to the concept of affinity groups. According to the schools statement, Racial affinity groups are often used in learning communities to help facilitate positive identity exploration and provide people with similar experiences a space in which to pose questions and process topics"
According to Principal Rouse, the conversation was an opportunity for students who identify as Black to speak openly, honestly, and productively.
Rouse told the Chicago Tribune affinity groups are helpful to discussions on race, as he found it has been far easier for me to talk about my experiences with racism with individuals that look like me. He added, I still struggle myself with talking about my experiences with people who dont look like me.
Rouse hopes to host similar racial affinity group discussions in the future with different races, saying he believes the affinity group is the safe way for us to move forward in a safe environment.
As blacks move into control of our society exclusion of whites from places and events shall grow in frequency. No conquering people wants to mingle with the vanquished.
It doesn’t seem to make any sense to just have black students talk among themselves on race relations. Unless they were addressing the issue of blacks murdering other blacks because they are racist towards each other and need to learn that other black lives matter.
OK then... will the school allow a white caucus? For those who wish to celebrate their heritage, or for those who are simply anti-affirmative-action?
Nathaniel Rouse
Because they are creating the next generation of angry divided Americans.....Duh!
This is amusing whether it’s a white principal OR a black principal. If it’s a white one, let it be a lesson to white kids that there is always some progressive turd out there wanting to play Lefter Than Thou. If it’s a black one, let it be a lesson to white kids that equality is not the goal: supremacy is.
Oh wait! Wouldn't that BE RACIST?!
Throw these ass**** "school officials" in jail!
funny how real racism is ignored but bad humor is pounced on...
Equality can only be found in a different dimension: a heavenly one.
Ah, racism and segregation is alive in the Illinois school system
Blacks should welcome other races attending such an event. Therefore this was blatant racism.
How much black blood required? 5/7’s?
So who determines whether or not you have the necessary blackness to attend a blacks only event?
Would Obama have been allowed to attend since he is only half black?
This was even more racist than the idiot frat boys in OK. Of course, it is totally acceptable for blacks to be racist.
Racial segregation good job principal
Self fulfilling prophecy then.
They haven’t “conquered” squat, we’ve given it away with both hands. Same with South Africa. When Detroit as it stands is what remains from Detroit as it was, I can’t see the current inhabitants as “conquerors”. More like a parasite/host relationship, and we’re the host.
Thats racist.
