Gun maker Sturm, Ruger & Co. posted an unusual loss during the fourth quarter, dragged down by a $41 million charge related to the termination and settlement of the companys defined benefit pension plan that Ruger had flagged earlier would depress its bottom line.
At the same time, Ruger said gun sales were again lower in the fourth quarter than prior year levels, reflecting an industry-wide slowdown following exceptionally robust sales throughout 2012 and 2013. Firearm sales, particularly of handguns, have slowed nationally after President Obama was unable to push through new gun-control legislation.
But now, after cutting production levels almost 40 percent in the second half of last year, demand has started to show some early indications of improvement in 2015, Michael Fifer, chief executive of Ruger, told analysts in a recent conference call. The company has started to raise production rates for some of its products.

Lost 15 million for the quarter, with a 41 million dollar charge. Hmm...sounds like a 26 million dollar profit under normal circumstances.
Seems like they’re preparing to go forward. I have 5 of their weapons.. 10/22 in tactical, two government SR1911s, on commander SR1911, and a 45 LC Bisley.
I have never had one misfeed, misfire, mishap or bad shoot with any of them. The 1911s are the best I own (except for a 1911 and 1911A US Government Colt I have).
They’d all be among the last of my guns I’d sell or trade.
was it gun control legislation, or more presidential directives?
Looks more like internal corporate changes than external forces. Ruger sells ever firearm it can make, and usually has them all pre-sold to the big distributors such as Davidson’s very early each year.
“was it gun control legislation, or more presidential directives?”
Probably both, but here in CA it was most likely the expiration of the single shot exemption which was allowing people to purchase off-list semis. Local shops I know were doing a land office business in off-list pistols. When the new Glock 42 came out one shop had a fifty unit backlog.
Don’t blame me! I did more than my fair share to give them some income.
Same here!
Want a “Brand?” buy one of the Tommy Hilfinger ones. Want a good one, buy a Ruger.
We have a couple of them - my wife lovers her Ruger .22.
I agree. with one exception, my last4 purchases have been ruger. Love the reliability of the weapons.
The only place you can go to work and get a plush defined benefit pension plan is the government.
“Theyd all be among the last of my guns Id sell or trade.”
I have never sold a Ruger. I have passed three on to the next generation. My latest is a LC9S and it is a great carry gun.
“We have a couple of them - my wife lovers her Ruger .22.”
What model does her lover have? (grin)
Maybe they need to expand into the manufacturing of ammunition like Remington, Winchester and Smith and Wesson? Colt can subside without manufactoring ammo due to their huge government contracts.
Ruger, Start making .22 ammunition!
I have an SR9. Just bought an LC9S yesterday. I put about 100 round through it. I did have two occasions where I pulled the trigger and nothing happened. The previous round fitted, the slide ejected the casing, pulled the trigger and - nothing.
Ejected the round and there was no Mark on the primer. Not sure what out could be. Any thoughts? I put about thirty rounds through it after the second noon fire.
The only thing I can think of is that it is not quite going into battery. It could happen with a new, tight gun.
The trigger failed to reset. Ruger occasionally has that problem. I have experienced that with rapid fire in a 10/22 take down. Quick solution re-rack charging handle seems to help. Longer term may be need upgraded trigger reset spring.
Some LC9’s are also touchy about their ammo

hah...yeah, she has a Ruger 38 revolver.
The guy at the store recommended that I take it home clean it up and if it still happens contact Ruger. It's a far different feel than the SR9 when shooting. Took me a bit to get used to the recoil and small grip.
BTW, Ruger won't even sell me "legal" magazines here in CT. I have to buy them from a store. CT sucks.
