Either the satellite just got hot by itelf and kablam, or someone shot it down via advanced technical means.
Space War?

No doubt.
Information is scant, but I’m betting number 2, even though it violates Occam’s razor.

I’ve heard the Russians have been experimenting with development of satellite killers.

What country was it over when it “exploded?”
To: muffaletaman
Ah, the secret weapon works.
Now we just have to find out who’s side the weapon is on.
I note the satellite was an old one and not critical to our system.

Remember 9/11.
It was oddly hilarious when a CNN reporteret acted like it was another accident when the second plane hit the second tower. Then she snapped out of it.
If only one tower had been hit and nothing else happened, 9/11 would be a big controversy regarding what happened.

Do satellites have a self-destruct? What if someone hacked it to self-terminate?
To: muffaletaman
“Space War”?
No, global warming effects on the upper ionosphere.

Well, since it was a military satellite, it would be interesting if it was, itself, a killer satellite and something happened causing it to off itself. Laser power overdrive or something like that.

Interesting. I missed the “old” part.
It’s like what we did with old ships when testing nuclear bombs - maybe. The fact that we publicized it may be a message to other governments. Unfriendly ones.
