Another major media outlet has apologized after getting a story about Scott Walker wrong. Last week, it was the New York Times; now, its The Daily Beast.
The Daily Beast has retracted an article from one of its college columnists that claimed that the Wisconsin governors budget would cut sexual assault reporting from the states universities.
The post, published Friday, cited a report from Jezebel that wrongly interpreted a section of the state budget to mean that all assault reporting requirements were to get cut altogether.
In fact, the University of Wisconsin system requested the deletion of the requirements to get rid of redundancy, as it already provides similar information to the federal government, UW System spokesman Alex Hummel told The Associated Press on Friday.
The Daily Beasts correction and retraction is posted in full below. The USA Today story it references, however, is actually an AP article posted on the site:

So, how many times has a media outlet had to retract a defamatory hit piece on a demonRAT?
Zero?
Yeah, I thought so.
obama’s lapdogs at the MSM are getting hysterical about walker; he must be doing something right.
Yup. Let the lie run halfway around the world, and then publish the retraction on the bottom fold of page 17, next to the classifieds for used furniture.
What is not a lie, and needs no retraction, is that Jeb Bush is a maggot.
Easy to explain: They’ve never written one. Even Pravda criticized the Politburo once in awhile.
Trying to unring a bell.
How about a week-end, at minimum, in le hoosegow to let these lyin’ bastids reflect on the error of their ways?
In Libworld, the truth simply doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is THE NARRATIVE, and pimping it.
To libs, even if the story gets withdrawn, it is considered a victory, because they got the meme “out there”, into the minds of the Low-infos.
Fake but accurate.
You have to print a defamatory hit piece in order to retract it.
It’s odd how many liberal members of the press make ‘mistakes’ when it comes to Republicans but NEVER make similar mistakes with Democrats.
I would list the ‘mistakes’ but they would go on forever. Truth is these are bad people with editors who don’t care about accrucy when a conservative is damaged.
Oberlin - KKK stunt done by liberal
Lesbian who carved her own skin with hate messages and attempted to blame a white conservative man
College liberal feminist who wrote ‘rape threats’ to herself and blamed white Republican men.
Left wing haters are so eager to jump that they don’t give a damn about the facts.
We know that because they NEVER make these kind off ‘mistakes’ with liberals.
We should not forgive them - not that the haters give a damn about our rights or feelings.

“Heres The Daily Beasts retraction. Politico added that the USA Today story it references is actually an AP article:
A Daily Beast college columnist at the University of Wisconsin based this article off a Jezebel posting which was incorrectly reported. Jezebel updated their post on Saturday with the following after USA Today published a story debunking Jezebels account and clarifying Gov. Scott Walkers position. UPDATE: After Jezebel ran this item yesterday, a spokesman for the University of Wisconsin came forwardover two weeks after the budget was releasedto clarify: the University requested that Gov. Walker delete the requirements because efforts were redundant with their compliance of the Cleary Act. Scott Walkers camp assures that hes committed to protecting victims.
The Daily Beast is committed to covering the news fairly and accurately, and we should have checked this story more thoroughly. We deeply regret the error and apologize to Gov. Walker and our readers. This story should be considered retracted.
Jezebels actual Editors Note also includes these final two sentences:
We reported this piece without full context, and while this piece conveys factual information, omission of that context for that information presents an unfair and misleading picture. We regret the error and apologize.
But the reporter who wrote the Jezebel article had other things to say:
Ran an update on the Walker piece. Find another thing to be outraged about sweet, sweet Walkerites.

Also, Im not gonna apologize for reporting what was in the budget. Because that was in the budget. Ask your gov. to apologize for bad optix

At a time when there is HEAVY scrutiny on state/fed/colleges, a proposal to delete standing regulations, requires more tact.

(H/T: Drudge Report)”
Times like this when they’ve been sitting around in some office scheming desperately about how to make up headlines, I wonder if it occurs to any of them how pitiful their ideas must be that they have to resort to such behavior.
I guess that was the whole point of Alinsky.
