"If we must have an enemy at the head of Government, let it be one whom we can oppose, and for whom we are not responsible, who will not involve our party in the disgrace of his foolish and bad measures." - Alexander Hamilton |

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldnt make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan |

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Absolutely brilliant. It just makes sense to give those federal jobs to those who volunteer. It assures that those who are called to duty will have their jobs waiting for them when they return. Someone wants a federal job? Let them get to the back of the line, or sign up and serve.
Brilliant minds will come up with ideas that shine in their simplicity. Three cheers to Ted Cruz!
How can anyone vote against this?

I have a veteran’s preference and I don’t think it ever helped me get a federal job. I’ve applied for lots of them. As far as I can see it’s just ignored and they fudge the numbers any way they want.

How can anyone vote against this? I agree it is a great idea! I was under the impression veterans received a "veteran's preference" for federal hiring, but that was years ago and probably erased by draft dodgers like comrade klinton.
Now as who would vote against it - think sheila jackson lee, al franken, and at least a half dozen other dem commies.

That is already the law, but many human resources people in the federal government want to hire who they want to hire (affirmative action, homosexuals, foreigners, transgenders, etc.) so they just ignore the law.

Good for Ted Cruz.
National Guardsmen and Reservists should receive hiring points for federal jobs, especially now that so many are subject to being called for active duty.

problem with it is that many in HR never served and would rather have a college gimp like themselves working at the company

As I understand it, this measure is for reservists, not veterans. I agree this is a brilliant idea, as most of the reserves I have met are solid, conservative people. Seeing how the government seems to be infested now with far left liberals/progressive, it would be great to see some good people in the government.

With the right men in the White House there wouldn’t need to be any federal government hiring for at least 10 years.

I would have thought so, too, but apparently there is a gap in the system that affects Guard/Reserves. I don’t know the details, but I see plenty of Reservists inprocess where I work.

I have been selected at least 5 times and declined to interview one other time because I had just accepted a job I preferred. I didn’t know any the hiring officials, although at least one worked with someone who knew me from my military time.
The preference plus the resume/qualifications get you on the cert (the selection roster.) They can fudge the numbers some, especially if they have someone they know on the roster, but in my experience they mostly evaluate resumes, check references, and conduct interviews.

dis·cord ˈdiskôrd/ noun noun: discord
1. disagreement between people.
If no discord between voters, why bother having candidates? Why don't we just coronate your choice as supreme ruler over the land of the enslaved and the home of the fearful?
(Actually, a majority of electoral voters tried that with Obama and look where it got us)

Totally meaningless. If you want real change, bring back the old spoils system, and dismantle the permanent bureaucracy. This way when we do win, we will not have thousands of hacks sabotaging a future conservative President at every term. Under the spoils system, our guy can heave ho all the liberals out of the government at least during his term.

Total nonsense.
You are confusing the jobs that are attached to an administration, that are temporary in nature, with career jobs.
