Jon Stewart calls out WWE's Seth Rollins after 'Daily Show' slam
Fox Sports ^ | 2/20/15

Forget Brian Williams' anchor seat on "NBC Nightly News." Jon Stewart appears to be the bigger target as he prepares to exit "The Daily Show." Stewart, get ready to take on WWE Superstar Seth Rollins. The back-and-forth began when Rollins declared on "RAW" that he could do anything — even become President, or take over for Stewart on "The Daily Show" ... "and make that thing actually watchable."

Ooh, burn. Stewart, not one to back down in a fight, took up the gauntlet and responded with his own promo. Check it out.

Did you hear that, Rollins? One-hundred and sixty pounds of dynamite. Or, rather, wood. Soft wood (balsam). Rollins responded on Twitter: You know where to find me Mr. Stewart. will even hold up the middle rope for you. — Seth Rollins (@WWERollins) February 19, 2015

Vids at link. Hey, Stewart Was full of it for as long as he's been on TV, so a gig with the WWE would be right up his alley.

They crack him up as this huge intellectual, and as I understand it Stewart is a huuuuuuuge fan of professional wrestling.

Try it on:

Allistar Cooke —wrestling fan.

William F. Buckley —wrestling fan.

SEEM WEIRD TO YOU..?

It's all a work. Stewart is a wrestling fan and is taking part in this charade.

For those unfamiliar, a 'work' in wrestling means it is all staged.

I knew a bunch of physicists who had WWE posters in their offices. Some of the undergrads found them...unsettling.

Now and then you hear somebody claiming that Perfessional Rasslin' is fake, but they're mostly commies.

“SEEM WEIRD TO YOU..?”

Nope. Makes perfect sense. They appreciated showmanship.

Never understood the entertainment value of fake wrestling. But then again, I have all my teeth and speak English pretty well and don’t live in a van down by the river.

So when is it NOT a “work”?

You can see WWE wrap elements of reality into their storylines, like when Big Show had some financial issues, they used those real world issues.

Often in promos, especially 'shoot' promos, wrestlers will call out other wrestlers for things they've done in real life.

For those unfamiliar, a 'work' in wrestling means it is all staged.

Andy Kaufman's was staged, too. Kaufman was an admirer of wrestlers. Jerry Lawlor or the wrestling commission sent checks to Kaufman that were never cashed..

“But then again, I have all my teeth and speak English pretty well and don’t live in a van down by the river.”

Well, I too have all my teeth and speak English pretty well and don’t live in a van down by the river but since all movies are “fake”, all novels are “fake”, all plays are “fake”, and almost all TV shows are “fake”, I have no problem whatsoever understanding the entertainment value of fake wrestling.
