(Vermont) Auditor: Gruber may have padded bills
WCAX ^ | Feb 23, 2015

A top aide to Gov. Peter Shumlin is defending the administration's handling of a contract with Massachusetts Institute of Technology health economist Jonathan Gruber, after criticisms were lodged by the state auditor.

Administration Secretary Justin Johnson made public his reply to Auditor Doug Hoffer, in which Johnson says officials in the state office of health care reform kept a close eye on work done by Gruber.

Hoffer says the evidence suggests that Gruber overstated the hours worked by a $100-per-hour research assistant, and that top state health care officials ignored the obvious signs that something was amiss.

The state rewrote its contract with Gruber after he generated national headlines when videos were released of him talking about the "stupidity of the American voter."

Honest billing is for "stupid people".

So someone who values lying to achieve their desired result may have lied. Who’d a thunk it?

” I used to hold MIT in high regard.”

MIT has brilliant students but the administrators were leftists 4 years ago. (Cambridge, Mass.)

Consultants padding bills? No, it’s common practice. He’s a piker compared to Accenture or Deloitte.

BTW, the auditor is a hard core lefty.

Really? Well, at least one lefty has honor. I didn't think that was even possible.

$100/hour for a research assistant? I don't know any research assistants that make that kind of money. Maybe that's how they do things at MIT but that's not the way it's done where I work.

Every state that has a contract with Gruber should be going through every single invoice and questioning everything. This was the guy who thought it was perfectly ok to lie to the American people about the single worst act of legislative terrorism in our history. Given that, why wouldn't he lie on his invoices?

Furthermore, if the auditors are checking now, they should be checking to make sure those 'research assistants' weren't working on other contracts at the same time. My guess is there is fraud going on there too.

This SOB needs to be audited hard. Then audited again - until he cries like a little girl.

Leave it to Gruber. Biden can do the Eddie Haskell part,
There is no June Cleaver type working for Obama.

Gruber’s billing is a drop in the bucket when it comes to ObamaCare graft and corruption.

His billing was below 10 million bucks and he actually may of done some work.

The contractor who was responsible for the ObamaCare web site was an Obama/jarrett crony who billed the American people for just under a cool billion

What you said. The left shift started when they decided they needed to be more of a broad based university than a narrowly focused technical institute. Still a great place but now carrying a lot of leftist cruft.

If the auditor is honest and conducts the process with integrity, it doesn’t matter what the politics of the auditor are.

But these fools in grubermint all live off the “Fat of the land that has been confiscated under penalty of imprisonment”
