Those ate the Economist have obviously never read any history, American or otherwise. The power of the purse has been used as a check to executive power for centuries.
The Economist just doesn't want THIS PARTICULAR EXECUTIVE to be checked.

If it is done (it won’t be) then the legislative branch is performing its Constitutional duty in a Constitutionally enabled manner.
Having a half black President does not automatically transform a Constitutional republic into a monarchy. That happens with the assistance of a lot of Republican traitors.
