Mitt Romney’s niece was elected Saturday to the lead Michigan’s Republican Party.

Ronna Romney McDaniel was chosen at the the state’s GOP convention with about 55 percent of the vote, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Romney McDaniel previously served as a Michigan committeewoman for the Republican National Committee. She helped out with the former Massachusetts governor’s failed presidential campaign in 2012 as well, heading the Women for Mitt Michigan Coalition. During her acceptance speech, she vowed to try to help a Republican to win the state in the 2016 presidential election.

"We might not agree on everything, but we can agree that seven years of liberal Obama policies have a destructive effect on our nation and we need to get a Republican in the White House through Michigan in 2016," McDaniel said, according to the newspaper.

Republicans control the governor’s office and both chambers of the state legislature in Michigan. But the state has not chosen a Republican president since 1988. President Obama defeated Romney in the state with 54 percent of the vote.

This is the stupid bitch that determined republicans would have an open primary, knowing full well that the demontats will pick their nominee in a closed caucus BEFORE that primary!!

The only candidates on the ballot will be republicans, but let’s encourage every libtard in the state to pick the one they want to run against!

The libtards in the state don’t get to vote in their ‘closed caucus’, they can only vote in the republican primary. Is that insane or what?

Sounds about right for the GOP. They are doing everything they can to diminish conservative influence including importing more socialist leaning voters.

It took the Republican Party a hundred years to get rid of a "robber baron" taint, but only twenty-seven for the GOP-e to restore it.

The grass roots republicans in the state are pretty damn conservative, but the party leadership allow demonrats to pick our POTUS nominee.

Contrary to popular belief, Michigan isn’t a liberal state, we just have RINO a$$holes running the party at the very top.

Demonrats control exactly nothing in the state, they are powerless at every level.

We passed RTW, voter ID required to vote, banned affirmative action, banned queer marriage and queer partnerships, our gun laws are more pro-2nd amendment than Texas. The vast majority of representatives we send to Washington are Republican.

They only problem is party leadership allows demonrats to pick our US Senate and POTUS nominees. The RATS have their nominee/candidate for every statewide vote all picked before hand, then they vote in our primary and pick ours!

She won’t have to, the dems will pick the weakest RINO in the race, and the republican voters in the state will split their votes on more conservative candidates.

There wasn't really a good choice. I didn't have a vote since I'm not a delegate. Most of the tea party people (alliance wing) I know actually supported Romney McDaniel and think she's a lot better than her uncle. They hated the main opponent and said he's only out for himself.

A friend of mine's a county chair and a delegate. I told him that he should have run. He said a good chair needs to raise 20-30 million and that while he may have the best plan in the world, unless the money is there to implement it, it's worthless. He's a solid conservative (although loyal to a fault to his friends), and surprised me and said he supported Romney McDaniel. "She can raise the money and helped out Colbeck who was otherwise tossed to the wolves." was the response.

I don't know Ronna Romney McDaniel. I heard her mom was the most conservative of the Romney family. I do hope that Ronna doesn't hire Mitt's consultants. That's my fear.

I thought she got promoted to RNC to replace Land before they had that vote. That vote was in late September or October.

I got a 20 minute profanity-laden phone call about that decision from my neighbor county's chair who is a non-voting member of state committee.

Well she’s in charge now and she sure as hell isn’t going to have a closed primary.

She is and has been part of the rabid RINO cabal that makes the decisions at the top of the state party.

We could have had a rock-ribbed fire breathing conservative governor 4 years ago, but party leaders would never allow that to happen.

ANY Republican was going to win after 8 years of Grandmole!

I have it on good authority that most of the establishment wanted Pete Hokestra in 2010. Most of the grass roots I know split their votes between Mike Bouchard or Mike Cox. I voted for Cox.

Snyder was rather disliked by the grass roots and establishment, although got a lot of tea party votes because they fell for his "I'm not a politician" bullcrap. Dems crossed over in the primary as well.

I'll continue to push for closing the primary or going to a caucus system. One of my friend's is fairly high up establishment (but as conservative as I am) in the party and he's pushing for a caucus which would not be beneficial to the RINOs.

“Most of the grass roots I know split their votes between Mike Bouchard or Mike Cox. I voted for Cox.”

And all the demonrats voted for Snyder, there is no way for a conservative to win with the rules we have now.

BTW...I voted for Mike Cox too.
