The federal committee responsible for nutrition guidelines is calling for the adoption of plant-based diets, taxes on dessert, trained obesity interventionists at worksites, and electronic monitoring of how long Americans sit in front of the television.
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) released its far-reaching 571-page report of recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thursday, which detailed its plans to transform the food system.

Under Obie we have Nanny State on steroids!!!
We were warned that the passing of Obamacare would put the regulation writing agencies into overdrive, all under the disguise of "controlling health".
The report is open for public comment for 45 days, and will be used as the basis by the government agencies to develop the 2015 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The guidelines are used as the basis for government food assistance programs, nutrition education efforts, and for making decisions about national health objectives.
DGAC proposed a variety of solutions to address obesity, and its promotion of what it calls the culture of health.
The persistent high levels of overweight and obesity require urgent population- and individual-level strategies across multiple settings, including health care, communities, schools, worksites, and families, they said.

If it were up to me this entire committee would face a firing squad.
Meat and potatoes made America great and their plan is to make Americans physically resemble people from India.
To me that’s treason.

Think of the thousands of federal jobs this will create. They will assign each family an “interventionist” who will visit the house monthly, weigh each person, provide dietary guidelines, and report back to the feds.
For those who are overweight but not “poor”, there will be penalties such as increased health insurance premiums. For those who are overweight but “poor”, they will get increased dollars in food stamps and decreased health insurance premiums so they are not discouraged from seeking health care.

And how would you get enough protein on a plant based diet? I need a gram of protein daily for every pound of bodyweight because even at 56 I am an avid weight trainer. You can only eat so many beans.

As much as y’all don’t want to hear it... I’ve been “plant-based” for 2 1/2 years now, and have never felt better, or had better stats at the doctor’s office.
I’m just not an activist about it. It’s a personal choice.
And, yes, I’d eat meat in a heartbeat in a survival situation.
And yes... yes, I do miss bacon.
