"There's No Art to 'Selma,'" 'Boyhood' "Uneven"
An anonymous female Academy member gives Patricia Arquette a nod "for having no work done in 12 years," says she "could have watched my hair grow" during 'Foxcatcher' and resented 'Selma' filmmakers wearing "I can't breathe" T-shirts.

First, let me say that I'm tired of all of this talk about "snubs" I thought for every one of [the snubs] there was a justifiable reason. What no one wants to say out loud is that Selma is a well-crafted movie, but there's no art to it. If the movie had been directed by a 60-year-old white male, I don't think that people would have been carrying on about it to the level that they were. And as far as the accusations about the Academy being racist? Yes, most members are white males, but they are not the cast of Deliverance they had to get into the Academy to begin with, so they're not cretinous, snaggletoothed hillbillies. When a movie about black people is good, members vote for it. But if the movie isn't that good, am I supposed to vote for it just because it has black people in it? I've got to tell you, having the cast show up in T-shirts saying "I can't breathe" [at their New York premiere] I thought that stuff was offensive. Did they want to be known for making the best movie of the year or for stirring up shit?

Selma was shorted because the main actors are not American.
I fact, they are British and never benefited from the courageous work of Rosa Parks or exemplary effects of the march on Selma and Martin Luther King Jr, a real American.
Was it a good film? Sure but, it wasn’t a project of revelation, rather, it was a product of an anniversary.
Should it have won? Nope. But, if it had been produced maybe 10 years ago, with Denzel Washington as MLK, then it likely would have won.
The problem is that as a racial group you just can't keep bitching about every damn thing in life and call it racism and then go out and expect the ‘masses’ to bill and coo over a tribute piece of mediocre merit. Especially so when it is in a time in this country when blacks are everywhere with their taped mouths, intimidating stand-ins, looting stores, destroying stores and then claiming they've been discriminated against.
The AA’s used to be worth watching 40 years ago. Now that actors and actresses are no longer protected by the studios there’s no mystique to it.
Don't you just hate it when the coloreds don't appreciate all we do for them? < /sarc>
Does the Oscar ballot include comment sections like this?
If so, I’m surprised.
On Weds, at our local university, there was a “Black History” seminar that included Malcom-X’s daughter. Her message was the next generation MUST carry on the fight.
These ignorant imbeciles simply cannot grasp reality and refuse to see the leftist destruction of the black community that began with LBJ’s Great Welfare Socialism and Margaret Sanger’s Planned Parenthood genocide.
Truly, “stupid is as stupid does”.
To my limited mind and knowledge, there are no laws or practices condoned by any Federal, state or local government that allow discrimination or bias. None.
The “Boy Who Cried Wolf” fable by Aesop has apparently zinged right over their heads. Instead of imbedding a charge of racism in every aspect of their life that doesn’t sit well with them, maybe some self-examination is called for. Otherwise, all the plaints will fall on deaf ears.
And what exactly is the fight today?
Exactly!
Fight for more free stuff and no punishment for criminal behavior?
You silly goose! Against ordinary Americans who supply their gimmedats! They want more.

New actors and actresses who were interesting and memorable over the long haul seemed to start tapering off after the 1980s ended. The same could be said for the movies produced by Hollywood as well. You could probably list any number of truly interesting and memorable movies and movie stars from the 1970s and 1980s, but fewer from the 1990s and beyond.
