LAYTON Two men suffered just minor injuries when their plane crashed into a golf course Saturday morning.
The plane which has been identified by Layton city as a single-engine Cessna went down at the Valley View Golf Course at 2501 E. Gentile Street just after 10 a.m.
Witnesses reported seeing the plane's wing clip a tree before it landed upside-down near a sand trap on the course.
Both the pilot and his male passenger made it out of the aircraft with minor injuries, according to Layton police. The pilot was released at the scene, while the other man was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in fair condition, police said.
No one on the golf course was injured.
"It was extremely lucky that no patrons at this golf course sustained injuries due to the many patrons at this course today," said Doug Bitton with the Layton Fire Department. "The course also neighbors homes to the south on Gentile Street that could have been involved."
A man hiking near Weber Canyon just before the crash told police he'd heard the plane sputter and then the engine quit. The National Transportation Safety Board has not released an official cause as of Saturday afternoon.
The men were flying the plane which was a rental from Logan to Bountiful at the time of the crash, police said. They'd rented the plane from the Skypark Airport in Woods Cross early Saturday morning, flown to Logan for breakfast and were headed back to Skypark.
NTSB officials have ordered the owners to recover the Cessna for investigators, according to Layton city officials.
The names of the crew were not released Saturday.

And in what state is this ‘Layton? Sheesh
Would it have hurt your widdle fingers to type something saying this is Layton, Utah?
I had to read half of the article before I figured it out.
Utah.
A good landing.
They walked away.
That is important information, and would let us know if there are likely to be any golfers on the course at this time of year.
It seems likely that it is in Utah.
Obama survived...
Is the president okay?
These 2 golfers ended up in a sand trap the hard way.
This is not rocket science people.
Layton is north of Salt Lake City on I-15.
Hill AFB is just to the north.
Layton has a HUGE Mall and many restaurants.
Looks like a birdie.
If you walk away, then it was just a rough landing.
Minor injuries because they landed in the sand trap and not the green!
Getting in the trees never helps either.
I was kind of thinking what the golfers would do if the green got tore up : (
“You fellas mind if we ‘fly through’?.....(sorry)
The mention of Gentile St.in the second sentence made it immediately clear to me it was Utah. As a Jewish friend once remarked to me: "I love Utah! It's the only place I'm a Gentile!"
“This is not rocket science people. “
