[history]
Students at vaunted Cornell University are plenty smart enough to know they should not have to pay a penalty for not buying the school's health insurance if they already have coverage, but that's exactly what a new policy at the Ivy League school requires.

Under the Affordable Care Act, students must have insurance, but making those already covered pay an extra fee to skip the schools plan is not sitting well.
Not directly, but there are some correlating issues.

A family member works in administration at Cornell - she is a major liberal. We visited she and her husband a few months ago in Ithaca where Cornell is. We were driven around Cornell and the buildings and surrounding mountains are lovely. There is no way we would live in that liberal area.
Well, gee, the liberal students have to fork over $350 if they don’t take the university health plan and it appears the liberal students don’t like that so they stormed the admin. building and the president’s office. Hey, that is the liberal way - force someone else, students who don’t have the un. health plan, to pay for the ones on the plan.
This is payback time for liberals who want “other” people to pay and this time it is “they” who have to pay.

Students who do not opt in to the $2,352 per year plan... Wow! $200 a month for a population of young people who most likely will never need health care?
As a physician, parent and president, I am proud of our university's long history of providing quality medical, mental health, education and prevention services on campus.
Being it's Cornel, I suspect the Mental Health services are their biggest expense.

Now let me get this straight. If you DO NOT buy Cornell’s health insurance plan you have to pay anyway?
And Cornell is supposed to house geniuses?

Actually it is about obamacare because the new fee was imposed by the school in order to remain in compliance with the Affordable Care Act.

Well, they could take their educational “business” elsewhere! The best way to deal with Cornell is to not go there unless and until they rescind the fee!

What’s it cost to go to Cornell nowadays? I’m guessing close to $50K a year. What’s another $350? Let them eat cake.

My HS boyfriend went to Cornell...Came out a Physicist with a Ph.D. Ithaca turned him into a Conservative’s Conservative! Of course he was a free thinker. Not to many of those at 18! I don't live far from Ithaca now but rarely venture there. My daughter had to do a presentation at Ithaca College for HS and quickly wiped any school in Ithaca off her college list.

Tuition is about $48k, then you've got living expenses, food, and “fees”. Oh and they'll do your laundry for $1.05 a pound!
