Pope Francis: ‘The Choice To Not Have Children Is Selfish’

By Jessica Chasmar - February 12, 2015 Pope Francis told a crowd Wednesday at the Vatican that an enriched society requires that children be valued and that “the choice to not have children is selfish.”

“Children are really the supreme gift of marriage and contribute very substantially to the welfare of their parents,” said the pope, who grew up in a family with five children, CNS News reported. “The choice to not have children is selfish.”

“Life rejuvenates and acquires energy when it multiplies: It is enriched, not impoverished!” he said in his general audience at St. Peter’s Square. “Children learn to take charge of their family, they mature in the sharing of sacrifices, and they grow in appreciation of its gifts. The experience of joyful fraternity animates the respect and care of parents, who are due our gratitude.

He is a socialist. Socialism is destroying the free market. Socialism gives us a bigger more intrusive gov., and higher taxes and a higher cost of living.

And finally, socialism is mostly to blame for the falling birth rates because parents have less disposable income.

So don't lecture about something while ignoring the cause.

I think you should clarify a bit there. The producers (i.e., working parent(s)) have less disposable income because their incomes are being re-distributed to (m)others who are having kids left and right and cannot support them without that government handout per kid (or otherwise look at a kid as a new payday). I don't think "falling birthrate" is the real problem. Birthing too many who cannot produce in life is killing us (literally)

Fewer and fewer adults are getting married. Would the Pontiff prefer a lot of bastard children running around or no children at all?

Me, I’m an old-fashioned guy, no children before marriage but since I’m not married, I guess Il Papa thinks I must be selfish.

1 Corinthians 7:1-2

Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.

Here in 21st Century America, it’s not easy to just “go forth and multiply” without ending up bankrupt, in jail or dead.
