If Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee run for president, their Iowa supporters could have a choice between the head or the heart.
Or vote for someone else.
Santorum and Huckabee won remarkable victories in the Iowa caucuses, galvanizing social conservatives to pull off unlikely upsets against amazing odds.
But while the two had very different paths to victory in Iowa, they achieved it with similar coalitions of social conservatives and evangelical leaders.

A vote for either one is a vote for Bush.
Both are has-beens, and annoying ones at that!
excellent point.....and not mentioned enough here. Based on the amount of candidates, someone could become the nom with 20%...as you said. Hopefully things will calm down with the conservative base and we decide on one candidate.
” their Iowa supporters could have a choice between the head or the heart”
More like a choice between the left or right testicle.
All who oppose or otherwise obstruct Ted Cruz’s ascent to the Presidency should be viewed as enemies of the United States of America, and ought to be terminated by the Cruz Administration with no quarter given.
But he's probably still eligible to vote in Illinois.
I’ve studied both men, and Rick Santorum is a stronger social conservative than Huckabee, though both are good.
We also need to take an even harder look than usual these days at who our enemies would be most afraid of and RESPECT.
Of all the serious candidates, SO FAR, I believe the two toughest men to defend our country would be Cruz and Santorum.
Should Huckabee or Santorum have an unexpectedly strong showing in the Iowa caucuses, they would still be just placeholders for the more energetic and fresher candidates emerging later.
Iowa will always have the three way breakdown: Gov. Branstad’s establishment (Walker, Christie), the Paul die-hards, and the evangelicals mentioned here. But don’t overlook the evangelical appeal of Jindal, or even Cruz.
Note: There’s no room in Iowa for Jeb.
