Yes, I recall that he was captured by the Iraqis during the first Gulf War and held prisoner.

First Gulf War. American troops rescued him.

He spent time covering VietNam. He had some real wartime experiences.

Yes, I remember it pretty well. He was interviewed about it and he seemed awfully rattled and agitated about it. His anger was pretty apparent. IIRC, he wasn’t captured for very long, but I remember it because at the time, his reaction gave me the impression that his captors, well, uh might have violated him somehow (in an alien abduction/probing manner).
