Yes, but Kanye West appeared immediately and told him that he really ought to give that blood to Beyoncé out of RSPECT . . . which is why the transfusion failed.
It looks more like the front of the car hit an IED.
Either it was a really, really bad wreck or they used the jaws on his cab. Hard to tell from that pic.
At least one report said they had to open the car up, which made it look worse.
Yes, I remember it pretty well. He was interviewed about it and he seemed awfully rattled and agitated about it. His anger was pretty apparent. IIRC, he wasn’t captured for very long, but I remember it because at the time, his reaction gave me the impression that his captors, well, uh might have violated him somehow (in an alien abduction/probing manner).
Sad to hear. He was one of the good journalists - he reported honestly, he kept his opionions mostly to himself, and unlike posers like Brian Williams, Bob Simon didn't embellish his reporting from war zones. In fact, he was tortured by the Iraqis.

That is indeed what the Bible says. I always think of that when I hear people saying, at least he or she is no longer suffering.
