The IRS has apologized for stealing, or rather seizing, the back accounts of small businesses that did nothing other than deposit an improper amount of cash into their accounts.
Pressured by Congress, the IRS has apologized for seizing banks accounts from otherwise law-abiding business owners simply because those owners structured bank transactions to avoid federal reporting requirements.
The Associated Press reports “IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress Wednesday that the IRS is changing policies to prevent the seizures, as long as the money came from legal means.”
Civil asset forfeiture is a government racket where “suspicious” deposits at one’s banking institution trigger an investigation from the IRS, usually ending in the seizure of money in the account. There does not need to be any criminal charge or standard met before the IRS moves in and freezes your accounts, merely the suspicion of illegal activity.

IIRC, a FReeper posted a sarcastic message here (not on Rush's site) that made the connection between withdrawing just a little under $10000 from a bank account and driving just a little under 65 MPH on a highway. He said something like "if I drive two or three MPH under the speed limit, am I guilty of 'structured speed ticket avoidance'?" or something of that nature.
Someone on Rush's staff spotted the post within a couple of minutes and he (Rush) read it on the air. I wish I could remember who it was, but it was a long time ago.

In the meantime they caused all sorts of trauma and distress to those individuals. Not counting monetary loss.
IIRC, when I was a n00b, I swear I saw Rush, aka FReeper Rush Limbaugh, in the forum for awhile responding to a few FReeper's comments, then Rush disappeared from FReeperdom.

I do remember that, but I thought he had a more obscure screen name. I never actually saw a post by him, I only heard about it second hand.
Mark Levin used to post here, as did Tony Snow and Barbara Olson (Mrs. Olson was killed 9/11/01 on A-A Flight 77).
It's very hard to deposit large sums of cash.....and take out large sums of cash.

He hasn’t posted in years, AFAIK. The Viking Kitties have had their effect on many Conservatives worth hearing from. What’s left is a very mixed bag. On the good side, you seldom get a post longer than the Twitter character limit, so you don’t need to waste much time shifting through the chaff (The Religion forum excepted, of course.)
So if you deposit over 10,000, you’re a suspect. If you deposit less than 10,000, you become a suspect. Neat trick,,,
