The Tennessee Republican Executive Committee has, at least for now, closed the door on a resolution supporting statewide closed primaries.
The committee met Saturday to consider passage of the proposed closed primary resolution, but the measure failed. Twenty-nine members of the Republican Executive Committee voted in favor of the resolution, while 37 committee members voted against it.

I don’t understand why any party would vote to allow nonparty members to vote in a party election.

Easier to get moderates nominated if its open to democrats.
I doubt that even .00001% of voters even knew this was being considered.
That is crazy. All primaries should be closed to the party they represent.

I’m shocked...
Someone needs to put this measure on a republican primary ballot...or directly out to the republican voters. This is nonsense. The establishment wins again.
The Tennessee Party sees a need for Democrats to decide who the winner of the Republican Primary will be. It is likely the Democrats will know who their nominee will be early in the Season and will concentrate on the Republican primaries. That is what happened in 2008 and of course they didn’t have a contest in 2012. I am a registered Democrat and I stay in touch here in Florida. I can hear the undercurrents.
It makes it easier to get rid of conservative senators and Representatives.
Actually it doesn’t really matter all that much. If the Primary is closed many of the Democrats, already knowing who their own Candidate will be, temporarily change their registrations and vote in the Republican primaries instead of the Democrat primaries. They choose the Republican candidate or rather they reinforce the RNC’s choice. This time around there will be much more attention paid to the Congressional candidates, also.
The Establishment always wins. And the Republican Party functions as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party. The Presidential candidates are chosen by the Democrat Party and the decision is relayed to the RNC. It is not that serious because the RNC’s determination that the nomination will go to the “next in line” generally coincides well with the Democrats’ choice. Reagan was a jolt and the DNC and its RNC branch are resolved that such a disaster will never disturb Progressive Governance again.
